“Shhh - This hotel is so good, you will not want to tell anybody about it”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

The Tegernsee resort region is one of the most beautiful in Germany, close to Munich, the Alps, Austria and in itself a wonderful place of crystal clear lake, great restaruants and fantastic shopping.

Located on the fashionable Eastside of the lake, the SeeHotel Luitpol is a small hotel gem. While it appears to be another Bavarian basic hotel from the outside, it is instead a refined boutique hotel with an understated beautiful decor, great attentive service, a fine small restaurant and a fantastic bar.

The owner and his design decorator wife have given the public areas as well as the rooms personal touches, that are refined, elegant and wonderful. Each room is different and those with lake views have incredible views from outdoor balconies. all the bedding is first class and the bathroom amentites are the best quality.

The staff is small, but each staff member is there to provide refined service. So don't be surprised taht the bellman that carries your bags to your rooms is also taking your dinner order and later preparing one of ther signature mojitos.

If you want understated elegance and class make a reservation, but shhh this hotel is so good you will not want to tell anybody else about it.

What a romantic and beautiful place...especially when served by chef Alex ( who speaks fluent English). The food here is not to be missed...we were here during "Spargel Fest" (the time of year when the Germans harvest their white asparagus). the Weiner Schnitzel with white asparagus and hollandaise served on the street side veranda was to die for)...their tapas at the bar and sumptuous breakfast buffet were also memorable meals.

Tegernsee is a great weekend getaway. But, our impression is the Germans would rather keep this beautiful hideaway to themselves as we foound few English speakers and most of the shop owners unwilling to ship merchandise to the states. Alex, however, provides a great respite for those of us who have not mastered the language.

We loved traveling around the lake on the rundfahrt, shopping in Bad Viesee and Rottach Egern and hiking incrementally.

We would definitely stay at this hotel again!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night on our way back to Munich during a road trip through Germany. The location can't be beat and the room was adorable. Very nice balcony, room decoration etc. The breakfast had an incredible selection and was included in the room rate.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent one night stay at the Seehotel Luitpold. The owner is extremely gracious and speaks perfect English. He has been extremely helpful in recovering and mailing to us a book we left behind in the room. As some reviewers have pointed out, the rooms have recently been redone and the bathroom was fantastic! Wonderful private patio overlooking Tegernsee. The hotel is on lakeside road. However, traffic died down quickly at the end of the workday and we simply did not hear any traffic during the night. This hotel is an easy 10 minute walk to the outstanding Herzogliches Braustuberl Tegernsee. Great spot for those who appreciate biergartens in beautiful settings.

Great place - we loved it and we're going back.

Seehotel Lutpold is best described as a boutique hotel with great charm, warmth and flair. We stayed for five nights. Loved the room, the view, the owner (and family!), staff and food. We are very well travelled, both business and pleasure, and I must say, this compares very favourably with many great five star hotels, which we visited in recent years. While it is really professionally run, it is pleasantly personal (not intruding) - home away from home.

The hotel itself is compact and very comfortable. It is a completely renovated listed building, with a mixture of contemporary and traditional flair. The attention to detail on the renovation / rebuilding was amazing. The rooms and bathrooms are beautifully done, all new fittings and furniture. Our room (like all others) looked out onto Tegernsee, a beautiful lake in the mountains of Bavaria.

It is situated at the top of the village (Tegernsee), there is a brand new wellness facility across the street, and the lakefront boardwalk is directly in front of the hotel. Everything you need is a very short walk away.

We normally eat out when we are travelling. On our first night at Luitpold, we tried the hotel restaurant, and liked the selection (and quality) so much, that we ate there every night and didn't bother looking for anything else. This was a first for us. Breakfast is also great, 5 star variety and quality, and super coffee.

We are very fussy travellers, and I must confess that this was the first time in a long time that I didn't have anything to compain about.

I was attending a course in Tegernsee and booked the Luitpold by chance. It proved to be a real gem of a place, with fully renovated rooms, very friendly ownern and staff and a superb location. We ate in the hotel on the first night and the food was excellent, and from a varied menu. Breakfasts were also great, and a wide choice.
The views from the rooms over the lake were amazing, and I must come back for a real holiday!
Tegernsee is a bit off the beaten track, but well worth the detour for a truly beautiful location in Bavaria. I would certainly recommen the Luitpold if you do.

Great place! Definitely the hotel highlight of our trip. Look no further for a fine hotel in Tegernsee. The Seehotel Luitpold has welcomed guests since 1838, but its current owner has recently completed a major renovation of the hotel. He has had years of hotel experience already with companies such as Marriott and Inter-Continental, but this is his baby, and he's done a great job.
The exterior has been expertly redone, with a real eye to detail, but - once your step through the front door - you're greeted by a winning combination of sophistication and comfort. The rooms, which are not all alike, are done to a T: chic, modern - and comfortable. We were in #8, a corner room with lake and southern mountain views and a comfortable balcony overlooking the lake. The bathroom was a marvel of design and comfort. We came from Passau to Tegernsee, and I think our room in a good Passau hotel was smaller than the Luitpold's bathroom! And clean? Four star hotel, five star housekeeping.
The breakfast was superb: bacon and eggs, meats and cheeses, cereals, fruit, super bread and rolls and fine coffee. The bar is intimate and comfortable, with a good bartender, and a bacon cheeseburger to die for when the inevitable need arises.
Location is great, with the lake shore less than a 100 yards from the front door, and virtually all of Tegernsee within walking distance. Attention beer lovers: the Herzogliches (Ducal) Bayerisches Brauhaus Tegernsee serves one of Germany's finer beers, with good food attached, and is about a 15 minute walk from the Luitpold. The brewery and its restaurants are definitely a local destination and worth a visit.
The Tegernsee area is a popular spot for the folks from Munich, and may not be as well-known to Americans as other areas such as Garmisch, but it is a pleasure to visit. The four main towns are Gmund, Tegernsee, Rottach-Egern and Bad Wiessee. Check out Tegernsee - I think you'll like it.
Back to the hotel: great staff, English spoken fluently, and service the operating word. We had plenty of snow while there, and who was out in the AM cleaning the cars off? The hotel owner! He and his wife are gracious hosts, and dedicated to making the hotel your favorite place to stay.
Downsides? Two: no elevator, but the staff will help with your luggage if help is needed. The main road on the east side of the lake runs right past the front of the hotel. However, there is not much night traffic, and we slept peacefully while there. As well, many of the other hotels in Tegernsee are similarly located.
Bottom line? We're planning to stay here again. It is a small luxury hotel, so book ahead. We've traveled for years, and the Seehotel Luitpold is one of our few "can't wait to return" spots. Enjoy!
