The hotel is located right in the centre of Schwangau on the main road through town. Schwangau is a tiny village and this place is located right in the heart. It backs onto meadows running right up to Neuschwanstein Castle and the Alps. My wife and I were surprised to find that we were more or less the only foreign tourists in the entire hotel; this one appears extremely popular with older Germans.

If I had to name the style of the hotel, it would be "Rustic Bavarian". The room we stayed in was on the ground floor with a covered patio and was facing the hotel parking lot so privacy and the view weren't exactly A+, but not that bad. The furniture was of older style, but fit very well with the hotel's overall feel. The washroom appeared recently renovated/updated; however, we found it on the cramped side, especially the shower, which was surprising given the hotel's key demographic. There was plenty of storage in the room, but no in-room safe to secure valuables. The room was quiet, clean and of adequate comfort (as he furniture was quite basic).

The hotel has a large lounge, located at the rear of the hotel complete with an honour bar, internet terminal, board games and books. There are tons of couches and chairs to relax on and the windows look out on country meadows, Neuschwanstein Castle and the Alps. The lounge opens onto a nice, private outdoor patio and yard.

Ample free parking is available in the hotel parking lot.

Wireless internet is provided free of charge.

Laundry (wash and dry) was available for €1 each, including detergent. We found this to be an exceptional value.

Access to the hotel's spa is included with the nightly fee and a very impressive spa it is! The facility includes a sauna, eucalyptus steam room, gym, lounge, nail bar for the ladies, massage therapy and a tanning bed. It is very unexpected as you descend into it.

The included buffet breakfast is above average by German standards, offering a variety of hot & cold items. We also enjoyed dinner at the hotel restaurant one night. The menu is loaded with authentic Bavarian food, which came in large, tasty portions. English menus were available.

The staff were very friendly and attentive.

Overall, a solid choice for a visit to Schwangau. Great value and an authentic experience.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the hotel are right on the main road through town and probably quite noisy during the day.

As part of a tour we stayed at this hotel for 5 days over Christmas. The whole experience was a delight. The hotel facilities were beyond expectations, the staff friendly & helpful. The food and wine great. The well-being area is as good as I have experienced in a hotel and at no cost.

We were fortunate to have a room at the rear of the hotel and had magnificient views of both castles. Loved every day we stayed there. Free internet with a computer provided if you needed one. Laundry facilities in-house. Excellent hotel worth recommending to anyone travelling in the area.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights as part of our honeymoon, and it was wonderful. The spa was very close to our room, and we very much enjoyed it after backpacking across Europe! The breakfasts were good, but the dinner... oh my gosh. Amazing. Not cheap, but the food was possibly the best meal I had in our entire two-week trip.

Our room had a surprisingly good view of the castle, although the walk to the castles was a bit long... definitely one of those walks where you feel like you've been walking forever. Good exercise, though!

Note - the train station is in Fussen, a separate town, so if you arrive by train you'll need a cab or bus to get to Schwangau. It only ran us around 10 Fr, though, so not a huge deal. If we come back, I could definitely see us staying here again.

This gorgeous hotel was easily one of the best on our month-long European vacation. We received a warm welcome from the receptionist, who spoke very good English, and who showed us two lovely rooms from which we could choose. We picked the upper-floor room with a great view of Neuschwanstein Castle for no extra cost. The room was large and very comfortable, the heater worked well, the bathroom was excellent. The receptionist gave us detailed directions for our castle visits and also loaned us an umbrella as it was drizzling rain. Breakfast offered a fresh and tasty variety of cold continental treats, cereal, juice, tea, coffee and hot boiled eggs. The restaurant was very good, the meal was reasonably priced
and a good size and served by a good-humoured, multi-lingual waiter. We used the guest laundry for a tiny fee. Parking was free and convenient. The hotel was quiet and there is supermarket directly opposite, as well as other restaurants nearby. I would be more than happy to recommend this hotel to family and friends, and I would choose to stay here again.

Just a few facts:
The hotel's cat.B rooms has a very picturesque view with mountains and castles.
Schwangau village is much more quiet place than HohenSchwangau overcrowded by buses/tourists.
The hotel's restaurant seems to be the best in Schwangau.
