This was our second stay at this B&B and our experience was just as good as our first visit over 12mths ago. A very warm, friendly welcome. Our room was very bright, clean and comfortable. The breakfast had as good a selection of homemade breads, cakes and jams as you could wish for. In all, I would highly recommend this establishment!

As a family of four, we stayed in this hotel for two nights, primarily to see the nearby royal castles. The staff, lead by Moni, is unbelievably friendly and accommodating. She gave us excellent recommendations for local eateries and attractions, and our kids loved her instantly. Our rooms were spacious and clean, the beds really comfy. The room decorations had a clear Bavarian/Alpine feel to them, making it clear that you're not staying in a Holiday Inn. It was quiet and peaceful.

The breakfast really is from out of this world. An unbelievable variety of delicious choices. Many of them freshly prepared. Many of them typical German/Bavarian food (rather than your garden variety chain-hotel breakfast buffet). Fresh butter from a mountainside farm, home-cooked jams, ofen-warm cakes, a whole cornucopia of local cheeses and meats, as well as the many varieties of crunchy bread that Germany (rightfully) is famous for. Plus local delicacies like "Dampfnudeln" and, of course, the Guglhupf cake that the establishment is named for.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

The breakfast was over promised and under delivered. Basically very disappointing. The food was not very good. Our premium hotel room had slanted cielings. I am 5 foot 3 and walked around hunched over. We did not have a good night sleep because it was noisy in our area and the curtains kept falling down, letting a lot of morning sunlight in. I would not stay here again. We travelled 4 weeks in Europe. This was the only hotel we had a problems with.

Erratic Owner. While my husband was out of our hotel room, I booked a room for a second night stay to avoid the hassle of moving. I did not know he was talking to the owner. After he arrived back to our room, I was gettting dressed and the owner came to our room and began erratically knocking on our door and screaming at us. She was angry that we had booked through Booking.com instead of her direct. She was screaming that this does not make her as much money that way. Her behavior was so erratic that we packed our bags and went to the front desk to cancel our hotel room but the owner was out. We were on vacation and could not wait around. Booking.com charges the price of the hotel room for cancelling. We left our bags at the main office since this issue was not resolved. We reluctantly got stuck staying another night and the owner did not come over to resolve the issue. We left as early as possible the next morning without breakfast. We wanted to prevent another encounter with this explosive owner. Booking.com only reserves the room and emails the room price. But the hotel owner charges the credit card, hence that price can change without being notified. The owner charged our credit card a higher price without telling us. In my many years of travelling I have never been treated so badly. It left a very bad memory of such a beautiful area.

Room Tip: There are many good hotels and hotel rooms very close to the castle and town. I prefer to pay for t...

This is a nice hotel for comfortable stay in Schwangau (Horn). The hotel is in two separate buildings separated by a patio/courtyard area between. Also located in this area is an outdoor pizza oven. We don't know how often they do this (I don't think it's regularly scheduled), but on the day we arrived they were firing up the pizza oven and at 5:00 p.m. they started taking pizza orders from the guests. You told them what you wanted on your pizza and just a few minutes later you were handed a nice, hot pizza straight from the oven. We ate on the avalable picnic tables on the patio. It was really a nice surprise and for 10 Euros per pizza, not a bad price. Our room was located on the seconfd floor (there's three) of the rear building which is away from the main road and a bit quieter. Our room was nicely furnished with a large bed, flat screen TV with several English news channels, a balcony with a table, two chairs and a bench seat with a beautiful view of the mountains. The room also had two sitting chairs, a couch and coffee table plus a desk and plenty of closet space. The bathroom was very modern and well equipped. Ours had a shower only which was good for us. The lady who owns and runs the hotel speaks excellent English and is very friendly. She has a sitting room in the main building with a coffee/espresso/tea machine where you can help yourself during the day and just log what you take on a piece of paper she keeps there. There is also a refrigerator with cold drinks (beer, soft drinks, and juice). Breakfast was in the rear of the main building in a nicely decorated sunny room with big windows on three sides. Breakfast itself was plentiful with cereals, scrambled eggs and various warm side dishes, cold meats and cheeses, breads and rolls, yogurts, jellies and jams, juices, and individual pots of coffee for the tables. We never left wanting for anything. The hotel does not serve lunch or dinner, but there are enough local restaurants withing walking distance. One, which was excellent, was located in another hotel only a three minute walk away. There seemed to be plenty of parking in the three different parking areas at the hotel. We ended up parking our rental car and never moving it until we checked out four days later as it was so easy to walk everywhere (I'm 62). All in all, this hotel will get serious consideration for another stay if we return to Schwangau.

Room Tip: Rooms in the rear building should be quieter than those in the front of the main building because th...

This is a perfect place to stay if you wish to visit Neuschwanshein and Hohenschwangau castles. It is located a very leasurily 10 minute drive from the castle ticket office. The hotel is on the main road into Horn and is very easy to find. There is free car parking. Internet is available at a cost. Our room was spacious with a queens size bed, a small couch and the usual Tv with DVD. the bathroom was a little small but was quite functional. Everything was very clean and well kept. The owner 'Monika' and her dog 'Lotte ' were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a great variety and selection and w included in the price we paid. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel / B&B and will definitely be staying here if in the area again.

This hotel - closer to a B and B than to a chain hotel is very nice and clean and almost new. If you want to stay with friends or with your family just ask for the rear part of the hotel : it is very quiet - however if you want the view on the castle you should ask for the other part.
But the most exiting thing in this hotel is the breakfast. Really unbelievable. We 're used to stay in hotels and even very high end hotels, we've never seen a breakfast like this one. Perfect and a choice you can't imagine.
The lady who owes the hotel is cool and very helpfull for any kind of info ( visit of the castles, food, bars, ...)

My friend and I stayed in this hotel/B&B during our visit to the Neuschwanstein castle recently in April. We loved it. Landhotel Guglhupf is within 3km walking distance to the bus-stop station/ horse carriage boarding place to Neuschwanstein Castle. It is also within a short walking distance to and from the bus-stop where one can get a bus ride between Fuessen main train station and Schwangau. On arrival, we were greeted with a modern lodging with electronic access cards to rooms, clean bathrooms and toilets, large bedrooms with cosy armchairs and a pretty flower-themed room. And of course, a warm receptionist and her dog. The hotel has 2 buildings and we stayed in the second building away from the main road, on the ground level, The breakfast room was on the other building and similarly, we loved the deco of the breakfast room - dainty teacups and plates, white furnitures with again the flowered-themed cushions. The spread for breakfast was good and overall, worth the amount that we paid for the stay.
