“A GREAT PLACE TO STAY”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

This is an excellent hotel with views of Neuwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles, and the Bavaria Alps. The staff were very friendly and helpful and all spoke very good english. We stayed on a 3/4 board basis which also included a buffet lunch and afternoon homemade cakes. The evening meal was a 4 to 5 course meal. It was very good value, especially, as for example one night, if we had come off the the street and chosen the Day fixed menu it would have cost €35, per person. The room was quite luxurious, well decorated and equipped, with lovely views. A great place to stay and we will certainly return to the Ruebezahl at some future date. There are plenty of walking and cycle paths to enjoy in the surrounding area and the hotel will lend you a bicycle. A great place to stay.

Hotel Rubezahl is a lovely place to stay for a few nights. It is located on the outskirts of the small town of Schwangau. The hotels very nice and we booked a junior suite which had views of the castles in the distance. It is located in quite a rural location and there are some good, easy bike rides you can do. The hotel provides push bikes for free which is an added bonus. Our room was very comfortable with a good sized balcony. We have had bigger junior suites but I felt it was worth the money. Breakfast was good and one night was our wedding anniversary and we asked for a specific meal which was cooked for us very well. They had laid us a special table and gave us a greeting too. This was a nice touch.

You need to bear in mind that Schwangau is only a small town. The walk from the hotel to the centre took about 10 mims but there is not a lot there although very pretty. If you don't want to eat at the hotel every night then your choice is limited. We only found three restaurants all of them Italian! Mind you, they were all ok!

I would recommend this hotel but not if you are looking for a lively time in the evenings. It is a nice place to escape to for a few nights and enjoy the sights which lie around that area.

Room Tip: I would suggest the junior suite if you can afford the extra

This hotel was a real find. We traditionally stay in Relais and Châteaux properties, and were very pleased with every aspect of this hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, even helping us get connected to the wifi. We enjoyed the full board aspect, and the fact that we had the same table, thus "our table", for each meal. The views are spectacular, and we enjoyed watching and hearing the cows go to pasture each morning. Our room was cleverly organized, giving much space to the very nice bath room. We even had a real water fountain in our room, a first for us. We are already planning to return for another wonderful stay. The food was outstanding as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the castles

We chose this hotel due to the other trip advisor reviews, ans they were spot on. As I sit here in my room, the evening sunset is casting an orange red glow on the castles that I can watch right from our rocking chairs in a little sitting room off our bedroom. The staff have been wonderful, we love the milk cows out in the pasture just beyond the hotel gardens...and nearby we had great Italian food after a day at the castles.

Room Tip: Room 4 is terrific...faces the castles...sitting room a plus!

The setting is unique in that you are right by a farm. You can hear cow bells if you sleep too late. We stayed in a junior suite which was quite large. The bath room had both a tub and shower, which is rare in Europe. It was by far the largest bathroom that we had of 6 hotels that we stayed in on this trip. Plus we had wonderful views of the castles with a balcony where we would sit before dinner and watch the cows and gave at the castles and mountains beyond. It's well located, with the castles being a short drive.

Since we stayed in a suite, we had complimentary use of an iPad. Unfortunately, they were having trouble with the wifi hook up for the iPad, but they then loaned us a laptop, which worked just fine.

The front desk is helpful and can pre-book tickets for the castles, which can save you a lot of time and aggravation. With you tickets pre-booked, you know what time your tour is and you can just go to the pick-up desk to get you tickets.

The restaurant is good. We had a steak that was good, but not outstanding. The second night we had a chicken breast that was very nice. And as some reviewers have mentioned, they are very sensitive about you asking to change tables in the resturant.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the castles. Have the desk book your castle tours.
