whist this hotel might have been great in the past, it is quite awful now and certainly seems to live on it's past glory.

Dear Reviewer.

We are very concerned to read your comments. As you will be able to read from our hotel website and hotel brochures our hotel is nearly 185 years old and within that time the needs and requirements have changed permanently. We do now try to keep our hotel as up to date as possible without loosing it's unique charme. Most interior items are individual hand made on behalf of our owner and we know, that our old styled Bavarian design does not meet anyones taste.

We can only apologize that we did not meet your expectations.

I worked at the Bachmair as a chambermaid in 1975 when the hotel was world famous, operated to the highest standards and counted its guests amongst royalty and the world's richest. I always said I would go back one day as a guest to experience the luxury and top-class service. On my 50th birthday myself and my husband stayed there to fulfil my dream. What a huge disappointment. The furnishings were the same as in the '70's(!), i.e. worn, tired and out of date, the service was mediocre and the chambermaids were never around when you wanted something. Unheard of in my day. The staff were not particularly helpful and the overall impression was one of "can't be bothered." This hotel was unsurpassed in its hey day and is now still trading on its past reputation. How sad. Happily, the beautiful scenery is unchanged and developments around the lake have been kept to a minimum so it was well worth the visit and is a destination we go back to every year - staying in different accommodation!

The hotel promised a room with a view of the lake; however, they gave us a much smaller room with a view of a parking lot and still charged us the rate of the nicer room. The hotel staff was rude and refused to rectify the situation, and suggested we could check out and still pay 100% of the rate.

The hotel and room were generally run down and designed in poor taste.

It WAS the best hotel at the Tegernsee, but not anymore!

We got a room in the "new" annex building. Judging from the bathroom, this building was probably build in the early 70th's. The sinks were damaged, the water came in a wide spray out of the faucet. The hair dryer overheated, because it was never cleaned. In 30 minutes they were not able to provide us with another one. - Also they provided no appologies.

The bed was nice. The rest of the furniture in the room was old and the wood table and side table had big dents in scratches in them. The carpet in the room and on the balcony (!!!) were quite old and I wouldn't trust on walking barefoot on them.

Breakfast was a nice experience too. In their confirmation they announced a scrumptious breakfast, so our expectations were quite high - it's a five-star hotel! The hotel is located right at Lake Tegernsee. But the breakfast room is in the middle of the hotel, looks like a added sunroom, not very cozy. Breads and rolls are always a big thing in german hotels, not here. Saturday breakfast runs until 11 AM. We came at 9:15 AM. We found 4 white rolls and bread. When we asked for some grain or whole wheat rolls, the answer was - we only get one delivery from the bakery a day!
The food choices were - just some regular boring cheese, I think four different kind, 1 kind of ham, 1 kind of smoked ham and some blood sausage!!! No smoked salmon or anything of that matter.

Looking around in the breakfast room - the clientel is mostly older. Probably visiting again and again over the last 30 or 40 years. Some with their grandchildren.

At check-out - besides that the receptionist had such a loud voice and shouted all our details through the hotel, no-one bother to ask - did you enjoy your stay with us.... maybe they knew why!

If you want to spend that kind of money, go a few doors down to the Dorint Hotel!
