“Excellent value for money”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

The hotel is very good value for the money. Clean and comfortable room.
The breakfast was excellent and included in the cost.
The owner was very friendly, helpful ( let me use his personal cell phone) and spoke very good English.

Hi,
I stayed here with 37 friends and family and two 6 month old babies(June 20th - 24th 2012). I was getting married in a small village next to Bad Tolz and my wife and I decided on this hotel after viewing it in mid-January 2012. My guest stayed for varying intervals but most stayed for a minimum of 3 nights.

Now you would imagine that with bringing this much business to the hotel the landlord would be falling over backwards to look after us. Oh no - he was very much in money grabbing mode and determined to strip as much money as possible from our wallets. Everything was being charged down to a bottle of water and a cup of tea for my parents who arrived late. They were lucky to be checked in because the landlord decided he wouldn't check anyone in after 10:30 regardless of the fact that the flights from Ireland were landing in Munich at 9:30 (1.5 hrs from airport to bad tolz)

Ok - you can forgive this as it was just being strict but the one that really got me was the fact that he charged €30 per night per cot for the two small babies. When we saw the booking we assumed it was €30 for the 4 nights to put a cot into the room. Oh no - an extra €120 for a childs cot. Madness!

Also of course were the charges for paying with credit card which for this large a party could have been waved!

Also - the general grumpiness of the landlord really put a downer on the experience and I wouldn't recommend anyone staying here.

John

ps the wedding went well!

Stayed there Aug 11-13. The stay was just okay. The room was okay, nothing special. The breakfast was a little lame for sure. I will say the location was nice, just off the beaten track, very close to the water park which was amazing.

We took the chance and stayed at Leonhardihof after reading the mixed reviews. Well, what a mistake...

The positive things about the hotel:
It was easy to find and it was situated in a quiet street. We had no problem parking. The hotel only has a handful of parking spaces in the front yard, but it was easy to park on the street outside the hotel. Breakfast was ok and had the basic food available. It's a 15 minutes walk to the city centre and theres also a grocery store and a bakery nearby.

The negative things about the hotel:
When we were shown the room we discovered that it was situated in the lobby-area and next dining room. An old elevator for moving food/plates to and from the dining room was in one of the walls of the room. We feared that we might be disturbed by noise and asked kindly for an other room, but got the reply from tha landlord that there were no other rooms available. There was a sign with "Rooms available" outside the hotel and we also observed other people checking in later that day. The landlord said that he had never received complaints about noise, but now he has! The elevator in the dining room started operating at 05:34 in the morning...

The common living room with sofas looked nice but had a timer connected to the light, with the resut that the light was automatically switched off after two minutes. We then had to get up and press the lightswitch everytime we needed some light, rendering the common living room more or less useless in the evening/night.

The bedclothes had holes in them and the pillow was full of lumps like you get when you don't wash a downpillow correctly. The room was sloppily cleaned and used glasses were not replaced. The room also lacked a safety deposit box.

We had a written confirmation of total amount to pay, but discovered when checking out that the landlord also put the citytax on top of that. It was possible to pay with creditcard, but we would then be charged with an extra 5%. There were no mentioning of this in our booking-confirmation at all.

I've been visiting Germany on a regular basis the last 20 years or so and have stayed on numerous hotels in various citis and towns around the country. The Leonhardihof is unfortunately without doubt the worst German hotel I've ever been to and I can not recommend it at all. There are plenty of other hotels in the area - please find somewhere else to stay if you can.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the lobby area and away from the elevator in the dining room. Or the best thing...

Some friends and I stopped here for one night on the way to Austria. We all took our own rooms and booked direct at 49 euros each (think it is better to book via a website).

Rooms very clean and comfortable, some have own bathroom, others not. The breakfast was very nice and for our evening meal we ate at the local pizza place which was also very good.

The only point to note is that they charge a 5% fee if you pay by credit card, so make sure you take some cash!

We found it a very good quality/price ratio. We paid 33Euros per Person (in March).
We were 2 nights with 19 people for our wedding.
Service was very friendly and provided us beds for the childrens.
Breakfast was very good with eggs, ham, cheese, jam, bread...
Rooms are large and clean.
10min walking from the center. Parking for free.
We found it very good for groups since there is a large hall with tables to meet and wait the other.
