“It is what Aschaffenburg needed !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

Aschaffenburg is a great place to eat, always good quality, but I would say usually safe (uninspiring). Pier 18 is at another level, every sense is satisfied - brownie and popcorn, kangaroo.....fish from the "bloody" river (the answer given when asked where the exellent fish came from) and the resturant has the best views of the castle and the river. The owners are a laugh too ! I love it ! This review is not based on one visit !!!!!! It always delivers the best !!!! Couples, friends, family, business - fits all.! Enjoy !!!

“International quality experience....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2013 via mobile

Having just spent a week in New York City dining in many world class restaurants, we were not expecting to find anywhere that would rival these experiences in Germany, particularly in a small town like Aschaffenburg but what a pleasant surprise it was to find Pier 18.

The local taxi driver had not heard of the restaurant but did know where the mini golf course was on the banks of the beautiful Main river so delivered us to the right place. The restaurant is located upstairs in a building next to the mini golf course and as is often the case with quality establishments you might walk past without realising what you are missing.

We were greeted enthusiastically as we entered by charming smiling staff who looked happy to be there which is always a good start and were immediately impressed with the quality of the restaurant design and furnishing. The outdoor deck area was not open for dining as rain showers were passing through but it certainly looked like a wonderful place to sit on a sunny day and a couple of hardy locals were out there enjoying an after work beverage.

It was 7pm and the place was already buzzing with over half the tables occupied by happy looking diners. Fortunately we rang ahead to make a booking for even on a Wednesday night the place was booked out and some poor walk ins were reluctantly turned away with bewildered looks on their faces. Perhaps this was a new experience for local Ascaffenburgers but I suggest they get used to it!

We were seated at the window with a lovely view over the river and received prompt efficient service all night. The drinks selection was good, particularly the local beers on tap. The highlight however was the food with the only down side being too many choices on the menu and not enough room in the stomach to try them all. The plating and presentation of each course was top class as was the taste.

As we ate the restaurant filled to capacity including a couple of large groups and yet the food kept coming out without delay. Despite this the chef found time to pop out now and again to talk to his guests. As the night progressed and the place began to empty we had the chance to talk to Troy the Aussie chef/owner who hails from Tasmania and his wife Romana (who runs front of house) who grew up locally and he told me that they had knocked over 80 covers in just over 2 hours. He then showed us the tiny kitchen he operated with just him and one assistant chef and one kitchenhand. Seriously impressive.

Overall a great and unexpected dining experience and I highly recommend it to anyone staying in Aschaffenburg or living nearby, it is worth the drive. Just don't forget to make a reservation or you may be disappointed.

“Something different,”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

I've eaten there a few times now and always find something new on the menu, (really... who else has duck tacos?)
The staff is friendly and competent and the atmosphere warm with more than a dash of flair.
If you are looking for a romantic dinner, a place to take visiting business guests or just want to treat yourself, I heartily recommend Pier 18.

“Change of taste”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

I have been living in Aschaffenbrg for many years now, and it seems the resteraunts are often the same as far as the menus go. With Pier 18 I was able to expierience a whole new world for the taste buds. Along with classic dishes They try new and imaginitive dishes that may really surprise you. The service was great and extremely friendly. Lots of new and interesting ideas. Definately a thumbs up.
