“Friendly & a good bragain!”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

The hotel reception area and bar are very clean and bright and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. We took the "package"of bed breakfast and evening meal. Breakfast had a huge choice of breads, cheeses, meats fruits etc. Which kept hunger at bay until the evening meal which was also very copious and tasty. The waitresses were also very friendly and the only complaint I would have that it was served all too quickly.
Our room was in the annex which is about 5 mins walk from the main hotel and we had to climb up 4 flights of narrow stairs to get to our room in the attic. The room was not special even tho' we had a sittingroom but would rather have preferred a window and tv in the room than a sky light which we had to climb up on a chair to open! Otherwise it was clean but due to its situation we only really went to the room to go to bed. So if you are not good with steep stairs avoid room N° 12!
In this day and age we were suprised that we could only get wifi in the main building and then very intermittently - we got a code which we had to enter every 2 minutes which was very annoying!
The guys behind the bar made brilliant cocktails which I can recommend and it was quite spectacular watching them mixing them. Our entertainment instead of having internet!!

Room Tip: Room N° 12 to be avoided if you don't like climbing stairs

We were happy with the hotel, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was as expected, large, and with a balcony, bur it should be noted that the wardrobe space was somewhat limited, as was the shelving in the bathroom.
We had half board, and the breakfast was very good. However the evening meals were unimaginative, and the wine list uninspired. Only german wines available, though the Head-Waiter did sell us a good bottle of Barolo that was ex-list!

Room Tip: It is worth the extra couple of Euros a night to book a larger room.

Titisee is the sort of resort where many English people go year after year and don't really complain if something is disappointing. We stayed only one night and wouldn't have stayed longer even if that were possible. The rooms are expensive but rather small with quite small bathrooms. The main problem was the heat, we were there in June 2012 and couldn't sleep because of the heat at night. There is no air conditioning and no fans provided, the beds are rather uncomfortable (twin beds) as are the pillows. The decor is old-fashioned and the whole place could do with better furnishing. The young receptionist is friendly and helpful but the two older ones really couldn't care less. The barman is absolutely excellent and belongs in a better hotel

Room Tip: They might have a room in which it is possible to have a good night's sleep, we didn't have...

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night in a "honeymoon suite" - The hotel is a little older and so is the furniture. The staff is friendly. The wellness part is absolutely recommendable - a whirlpool outside, one inside, an inside swimming-pool and enough deck-chairs.
The Dinner was average - nothing I will remember but not bad. The breakfast-buffet was huge and you'll find something for every taste!
Its a partner hotel to the 9-hole golf course of Titisee (1km away) and so you get a discount there. Due to a golf flight at 10h we asked if we could stay until 14h on our departure day (Check out 11h) they organized a later room cleaning and admitted kindly without any additional charging (thumbs up!). So we were able to refresh and prepare for our journey home. Our Suite was on the ground floor directly in front of the bar - not quiet! but fortunately they are not open that long.
All in all - good for a normal stay if you don't expect too much. But I would not recommend for a special occasion.

We booked online many months ago, and I always ask for non-smoking rooms. We stayed at the Gasthaus, and ended up in one of the only 4 smoking rooms which smelt awful. I asked if we could be moved, but hotel was full.
The smell was only one of our problems - a tiny bathroom, that you needed the shower door open to use the toilet properly, poorly cleaned - hairs on shower and floor; a very creaky bed - couldn't turn over without it sounding awful. We have been travelling all over Europe and this was the worst in terms of value for money and attitude of front desk supervisor.
When we complained and asked to change rooms at first nothing else, except later another room did become available, but the attitude of the staff person was such that we made a decision to leave and not stay a second night.
We're probably going to be labelled as complainers, but even though it was a cheap room, we expected better. We've had better for same or less money.
Restaurant and breakfast very good, and amenities available for our use were also good - but I need my sleep more than anything else.

Room Tip: Be clear about your requests for non-smoking and confirm your request with hotel.

We have just returned from a fantastic week’s stay at The Parkhotel Waldeck in Titisee. We had booked the Gastehaus Waldeck which is situated just around the corner but you get to use all the facilities of the Hotel and take your meals at the hotel. The cost of the guesthouse is around 200 euros per person cheaper than the Hotel.

We were given a very warm friendly welcome and handed the key to our room which turned out to be in the hotel and not only a room but a suite!! Yes we had been given a free upgrade. The room was on the second floor and had a separate lounge area with a leather sofa and chair, a TV and a desk and in the bedroom part a large double bed with plenty of room either side. There was plenty of storage space, a flat screen TV, a safe and wardrobe (also a wardrobe in the lounge part as well). The bathroom was large with shower cubicle, two hand basins and a few toiletries were supplied. The rooms were spotlessly clean. We were very happy.

We had a wonderful view and could just see a very small part of the lake from the balcony. Our room was at the back of the hotel and we had the sun all day. Chairs and tables were provided on the balcony.

Now for the food. Wow what a feast. Breakfast was all self service and there was everything you could possibly think of. Many different varieties of meats, cheeses, yoghurts, jams, breads, pastries, cereals, muesli, honey, salad, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages. Even large bowl of pancake mix to make your own pancakes/waffles with a jar of maple syrup and icing sugar to finish off!!

We were on a half board basis and evening meal was superb. Five courses, all high quality food beautifully presented. A great deal of time and effort was made with presentation. As for the salad buffet, I have never seen such a variety. We are quite fussy with food and have high expectations and we had not one complaint about any of the food.

We found all the staff very friendly and could all speak English. In particular Herr Molner (originally from Hungary) who mainly worked behind the bar, who was extremely friendly and built up a good rapport with customers. The Hotel has a happy hour between 5pm and 6pm where all aperitifs, including the wonderful local brewery Furstenburg Weisen Beer, were all half price. A gin and tonic at happy hour was 2.85 euros!!

The hotel has spa and pool facilities although we didn’t use them so cannot comment.

The hotel is situated quite near the railway station so very convenient for travelling around the Black Forest region. A bonus is the Konus card you get for your 2 euros per person per night which allows you to travel in and around the whole of the Black Forest region on regional trains, buses and trams completely free of charge!! The German trains are excellent and run like clockwork and are very clean and a real pleasure to travel on.

The hotel is also situated central to the town where there are some nice shops and cafes/restaurants. The view from the front of the hotel is a very nice small park area which was in wonderful bloom.

The Black Forest is a walkers paradise with well sign posted walks all throughout the area. Plenty of benches as well for the well deserved rests and eating your lunch. Talking of lunch I can highly recommend the bakers in the station. Their sandwiches are superb and excellent value.

To summarise a fantastic week in a fantastic hotel which I would highly recommend.

Stayed here for our wedding night - they have a room containing an old fashioned 4-poster bed, jet bath and a fireplace (you need to order your wood before 3pm).

A very nice hotel, fantastic food - particularly the breakfasts... they have a HUGE selection.

A shame the hotel doesn't have lake views, but it's a 2-minute walk to the town, and the facilities more than make up for this.

Excellent hotel, friendly (English-speaking) staff, and very nice German beer.

Oh, we did have problems finding the hotel. On the main road, make sure you follow the signs for the centre of Titisee, rather than the "Titisee Parking" signs, then follow the Orange Hotel route signs.

  • Liked — Fab breakfasts, English speaking, in the centre of Titisee
  • Disliked — Got lost trying to find it !!
