All the larger German cities, and some of the smaller ones, were bombed flat in WWII, so even the nicer ones like Nürnburg are essentially recreations. Not so with this one - as the town was not destroyed, this is a more authentic look at how German towns once were. A beautiful place all around.

A casual stroll around town with a local friend showing me the sights. It was a sunny Saturday and the town was very full with tourists and - I suppose - shoppers, all of us enjoying the weather and the town. As I put in the title, I really don't enjoy such crowded spaces and it would be four stars otherwise.

We walked along the river, past the Hölderlinturm and up into the old town: this took us past the Holzmarkt, Marktplatz, and continuing up to the top of the town and the castle with good views over the Neckar and across to the Schwäbische Alb.

Our return took us back to the Rathausplatz and a pause to have a glass of wine in the shadow of the Rathaus - a very impressive medieval building .

As has been mentioned elsewhere, there is a lot of spray-graffiti around which is unpleasant.

Oh, I forgot to mention thaat are various "trails" around town informing you about architecture / politics and other subjects. The trail that led towards the castle - with a few detours - was, in fact, about political persecution in the 30's and 40's with lots of local detail.

The old town is the picture postcard vision of Germany you hope for. Cobbled streets, timbered houses, interesting shops and cafes. There are a lot of twisting steep lanes and roads though, so bear that in mind. A nice break from the serious 19th century neoclassicism and post war architectural mistakes you see in some other parts of the town.

We managed to see Tubingen in the morning and completely enjoyed this quiet and colourful town. The views from the bridge and the bank of the river are simply amazing. All sightseeing places are within walkable distances, a lot of cafes and small shops in the Old Town. I definitely recommend to walk both alongside the bank of the Neckar and in the streets of the Old Town.

Old cities of town in Germany always attracted me. You find nice cafes, restaurants and shops there. It's a must go in Tubingen.

It is a great shame that so much of this important University town is desecrated with graffiti. It is not only to the shame of the scribblers but also of the town leaders who have not invested in a cleaning up schedule. One hopes this will change!

Tubingen is truly one of the most beautiful towns in Germany! The beautiful Alt Stadt and really all the buildings surrounding it make this town a MUST SEE for anyone traveling in Germany.

Holzmarkt 5: a second-hand bookshop like from a movie, overcrowded with old books and memorabilia from Hermann Hesse who was here as a young apprentice. It is not easy to find, outside are only a few books. To see the store you have to enter a narrow door then climb the stairs. It is one of the oldest shops of this type in Germany.

The old town of Tubingen is a must-see. Wander the cobblestone streets admiring the architecture, then take a break at a cafe and people-watch while you relax.

I can't recommend it enough! My favourite part of Tübingen is not in the attractions list but you must visit and chill at the Platenallee, it is a small island by the bridge which you have to cross when coming from the central station and going to the Old Town. All locals will be sitting there in a hot summer day. In fact, Tübingen is a quite warm city and has good weather while most of the German cities are used to grey and cloudy skies. Enjoy your time in Tübingen.
