The castle and the old town takes one back in time. The quaint shops, narrow cobbles streets and the lake view - truly amazing.

“A must when in Meersburg”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

The Meersburg Burg is worth a visit. I mean, just the name implies how important the castle has been by having burg in the name of the city.

The castle is being well taken care off and it is a really nice tour, you can't get away from the tour path. You really get the old medieval feeling.

There are however some things that might be good to know. There aren't any information signs in the castle, you have to buy a pamphlet where you buy your tickets, which costs 1 euro extra. I really recommend that you buy it, though, since you won't have a clue about what any room was used for otherwise. In some rooms the suits of armor and swords might give you an idea, but otherwise it is hard to figure those facts out for yourself. Also there is a tower that you can only visit in the company of a guide, and this one is only done in German, which I think is a pity. It costs a few euros extra, but I could imagine that it is worth it since you get a guided tour. The fees are also used to maintain the castle and taking care of it, so your money is used in a good purpose.

Also I was very disappointed in the restaurant/café, which is the main reason for me not giving a 5 out of 5 to this attraction. The location of it is wonderful, but the rest is absolutely awful. We got in and thought that we could order the small pieces of cake by the counter, but when I started to order the woman interrupted me and said that they only had table service. Fine, we took a table, and waited for her to come take our orders, as she must have understood that we were ready to order, since we already had tried it. But she rushed past us two times not even looking our way. After 10 minutes we left our seats and decided to continue our tour instead, since we suspected that if ordering took so long, how long would the service take? There wasn't even that many people in the café at the time. So a tip, don't be hungry when you enter the castle, or be prepared to wait! I don't think the food is that fabulous either, when taking a fast glance at the menu and the people that had in fact got their orders.

But all in all a wonderful castle, well worth a visit!

Positive things:
- The view!
- The tour of the castle is well signposted

Negative things:
- The rude waitress in the café

“A fun step into the past”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

A self- guided tour of a very cool castle. While there were no great bells and whistles on this tour, it was an extremely interesting tour and we felt like we got a real feel of what life was like in medieval times. This is suitable for all ages and is an easy way to spend a short couple of hours in Meersburg. A must see on your visit.
