“Excellent hotel for sleepover on our way to Austria.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 29, 2012

The hotel is conveniently located an 8km off the A8 highway. The hotel advertises as a 3 star hotel, but, to our opinion, it's more a 4 star hotel.
We had a family (4 person room), and were pleasantly surprised with the size of the room. It even included a microwave oven, some free drinks, and some chocolates for everyone.
Very friendly staff. The buffet breakfast was excellent, fresh fruit, freshly baked viennoiseries, ...
We even were offered some free water bottles for our way back home. A small gesture, but it simply shows how much they care. Highly recommended.

My family stayed here for 5 days while in the region for a wedding. The hotel was modern, clean, comfortable, and overall made our stay enjoyable. The daily buffet breakfast was a treat, with everything from yogurt, to cereal, eggs, bacon, and pancakes. The room was modern, clean, and large by European standards. The village was an easy walk and a small park was right next door (the kids enjoyed this).

The sixth time over 3 years that we have stayed at this hotel and the service has been consistent. This is primarily a place for business people and people passing through the area.

It's easy to find; parking has always been easy; and security has never been an issue here. They accept dogs and there is a park next door, as well as pleasant walks along the river into the old town.

We always receive a friendly, efficient welcome; trolley the baggage up in the lift; and eat in one of the venues, owned by the hotel proprietor, next door. There's Hartmaier's Restaurant - highly recommended for a top class meal - and the Watt's Brasserie for something more simple but still very appetising. In both places, weather permitting, you can eat inside and outside; menus are available in English; and your dog can sit quietly beside the table. In the restaurant, as the evening wears on and if it gets a bit chilly, they even offer their guests blankets/shawls for the shoulders.

The breakfast is fresh, plentiful and caters for diverse tastes - there's even a special selection for children. Complimentary bottled water is available in the room, but it you arrive thirsty there's also the bar and a hot drinks facility in the reception area too.

Overall the hotel is scrupulously clean and well maintained. One tiny niggle is that some of the square shower cubicles tend to leak where the doors meet. Thus, the bath mat tends to get completely sodden after two showers.

Free internet connection with a laptop is easy - just get a username & password from Reception. Wifi is an extra. The amount of work-surface is a bit limited, but there's plenty of clothes hanging space. The air conditioning is very efficient.

If you're travelling with a dog and need a vet for the Passport procedure, there's a wonderful vet, just minutes walk away, who can help.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back left, facing the hill are generally quiet and cool. Corner rooms are a bit larger...

I booked a room at the back based on Trip Advisor advice. It was clean, spacious and quiet. Lovely staff, excellent breakfast. Dinner at Watt's Brasserie, next door ( belongs to hotel), lovely food. Pleasant walk to town centre, peaceful yet only 5 minutes from E35.

We stayed here while I attended a conference (4 Nights) The hotel is easy walking distance to Stadthalle and downtown. Parking for our rental car was free. The rooms were very nice with a large bathroom and good hot showers. We found the beds very comfortable even though we are not accustomed to the style of beds (double platform base with single mattresses and individual duvets). We slept with the windows open because of the temperature and the street at the front is quite noisy but we adjusted quickly. The breakfast is very good and included with the room (large selection of hot and cold). There is no pool with this hotel although there is a municipal pool a block away (we never bothered to go)
The Internet is the real weakness here. There is high speed wired in each room however we had only wireless devices with us. Wifi was only available by paying by credit card separate from the hotel bill (approx €10) The wifi was also tied directly to the device and could not be shared. We had 2 iPads and 4 iPhones among the 4 of us and only one ipad had wifi access. Big problem for family with teenagers unless you have a laptop that can connect to the network.

I stayed in this Hotel when I visited Germany for a training program. It is conveniently located and has restaurants which serve wide range or gourmets. Rooms are clean and room service is prompt. The staffs were very pleasant and polite. The only disappointment is that they do not offer evening meals or snacks.

I would like to stay in the same hotel if I visit Ettlingen again
