“Excellent Kitchen, Friendly Service and Authentic Atmosphere”
Reviewed November 28, 2011

We found this restaurant while traveling by road from Frankfurt to Geneva. We arrived at 1:50 pm and the kitchen normally closes at 2 pm. They happily seated us and had the whole menu available for us. The meal was excellent local food, the portions were large and the salad was very fresh. We had a tender veal with a cream sauce over spaetzle and ox tongue in a red wine sauce over house made noodles. Though toungue may not sound very appetizing to all, it was very tender and very tasty. I was even able to get my wife to taste it and she was surprised how good it tasted. For desert they have a wide selection of ice cream, cakes and pies. We shared a piece of Black Forest cake. It was authentic with the cake part saturated with Kirsch Liquor, black cherries and real heavy whipped cream. This place will get a permanent spot on our global list of good places to eat.

It is kind of hard to find, so here are the directions: Traveling the Autobahn A5 from Germany to Switzerland, take the last exit before the border just outside Basel or the first exit when one coming into Germany. The exit is marked "Weil am Rhein". Follow the sign to Weil am Rhein. Turn left after about one km (.6 mile) following the sign Stadtmitte (Downtown). Then take the first right turn. This will after about 500 meters (550 yards) lead you to the village of Haltingen which is a suburb of Weil am Rhein. As soon as you enter the village make a right onto a very narrow street (there is a sign for the restaurant), go to the end of the street and make a left, the restaurant is about 300 meters down the street on the left. They also have a small Hotel above the restaurant.
