I agree with all that other writers have written. This place deserves to be better known. We have been in Heidelberg for 2mths but only heard about it today when friends took us there. Think of it as Germany's Versailles. The formal gardens are beautifully symmetrical and very extensive. There are said to be 100 statues but there are (fake) ruins, a decorative mosque with minarets and cloisters. We didn't go into the palace but it's obviously very ornate and has a theatre with what are claimed to be the first galleries in Europe. The tea rooms are worth a visit at the end as you need 2-3hrs to visit.

I enjoyed the garden here as much as, or more than, the garden at Schoenbrun in Vienna or Versailles. The best part was it was easy to take pictures because there were so few people there.

This is an easy trip from Heidelberg (take the 22 tram to Eppelheim to the end then take the 713 bus to Schlossplatz) and worth the time. You can pay either 9 EUR for entrance to both the Schloss and the garden or 5 EUR for the garden only. We only went in the garden which is approximately 800 hectares and has many temples to Roman gods and a beautiful Badhaus (bath house). Definitely worth 5 Euros.

I utterly fell in love with this place! Fantastic gardens. They are so big and magical. There is even a beautiful mosque in the middle. Well worth a visit. We didn't go into the castle (Schloss in German) this time but judging by the gardens it is probably just as beautiful. Go In the summer, take a picnic and soak up the sun and beautiful gardens. (Family tickets for the gardens were €12 for 2 adults and 2 kids. Quite well priced - I thought)

I haven't been inside the schloss, but have been to the schloss garden twice. The first time was just for sight-seeing but the second time was because I was so enchanted by its beauty and dream-like layout that I just had to revisit.
Its not surprising to feel like Alice in Wonderland once you enter the garden. Each direction leads you to a more mysterious path, more hidden beauties, more small lakes with petite bridges over them and then suddenly you find yourself at the foot of a temple or a church or even a mosque!! What a beautiful way to convey this message about co-existence!
A trip to Schwetzingen Schlossgarten is not only a treat for the eyes but also for the mind and soul.

The gardens are very beautiful. They did not have an english tour of the Schloss when we were there. Well worth a visit.
