This review is of the restaurant only; we didn't stay overnight.

The restaurant is quite wonderful, and not hugely expensive. Immaculate service, pleasant and well-organised outdoor seating if the weather suits that, excellent choice of local and other wine. I can't speak too highly of this place.

The ambience is a little more informal at weekends, but we were delighted by both our evenings here. Either way it is a romantic and hugely satisfying experience.

For visitors to Germany this is a unique experience. The hotel comprises two historical half-timbered buildings that have been partially renovated and exude a very special charm. The hotel is located in the main street of Oberkirch, a small town at the foothills of the Black Forest. From here you can easily explore the surrounding area, for instance to go hiking or try out the many excellent local restaurants. Strasbourg is also close by.
The hotel offers free parking and wifi to its guests. Its staff is extremely welcoming and helpful. Weather permitting you can dine on the terrace and enjoy the local wines. We had an excellent dinner on our first evening there but opted for cheaper restaurants on the following days, which was not a problem at all.
Our only slight criticism would be the breakfast: we were disappointed at the quality of the bread and bread rolls. Germany excels in bread-baking and these products just weren't up to scratch. In fact they reminded us of inferior baked goods from other countries. (Anmerkung für das Hotel: Es gibt so viele ausgezeichnete Bäckereien und Konditoreien in der Nähe. Sie haben die Qual der Wahl!) Other hotels in this category generally offer a bigger spread at the breakfast buffet but all in all it was certainly sufficient.

Room Tip: The hotel has renovated a large number of rooms but it is still possible to book an older one at a l...

As a former pastry chef attached at the hip to an executive chef, we travel mainly to satisfy our largely unquenchable culinary cravings. That being said, I am still haunted by the dinner we experienced at the Obere Linde Hotel and Restaurant in Oberkirch, Germany. I assure you my meals at Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck, Thomas Keller’s French Laundry, and Munich’s Tantuis to name just a few pale in comparison. The meal decidedly classical was masterfully prepared. Chef Hechlor’s saddle of venison accompanied by perfectly poached pears and lingonberries must be tasted to full understand my point here. Each course was impossibly better than the prior and the wine pairings decidedly regional and perfectly balanced.

My wife and I were driving a rental car from Strasbourg (France) to the Black Forest (Schwarzwald in Southwestern Germany) and looking for a place where to spend the night. We were impressed by the historical facade of this hotel and fortunately found there a very comfortable room with all modern ammenities.
We had an excellent dinner in the hotel's restaurant and the breakfast was also first class.
We were told that the original hotel was established in 1659, that the German emperor stayed there in 1879 and that it was fully renovated between 1960 and 1985.
The employees were very helpful and attentive.
We think that the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the service.

Our stay at this hotel was extremely pleasant. We had a family of 4 and were very happy to see the very spacious double sized room with a door between the master bedroom and other room. The bathroom was very large, very clean and modern, with double sinks, and a stand-up shower - something we Americans appreciated after several days in other German hotels without that! The decor was cozy, and we enjoyed sitting out on the balcony! When we alerted the staff that the hair dryer did not work, they showed up immediately with another one. The restaurant food was excellent, though overpriced, and the service highly professionnal. They did offer room service as well. Breakfast, which is included in the room price, was a step above other hotels with a bit more variety of fruits, and smoked salmon, for example, in addition to the expected cold cuts, bread, cereal, and soft boiled eggs. Overall, we would definitely stay here again and again, while traveling through the Black Forest area of Germany.

We came upon this quaint hotel by chance and loved it. The furnishings are all antique and cozy. The service is friendly . We did not feel like we were in a hotel, we truely felt at home. Our every need was met with a smile.

We only spoke English, but that was not a problem. They always went the extra mile to make sure we had what we wanted. The hotel is located within walking distance to everything, from the beautiful town park (with amazing areas for children to play and works of art situated on a granite gravel path) to restaurants, to the train station.

The restaurant lives up to it's award winning reputation. However, the gem of this hotel lies in it's wonderful employees, old world architecture and charm.
