“Sleepless in Kork !!!!!!”
Reviewed July 12, 2009

We stayed at this hotel on the 1st night of our holiday with Crusader coach travel, wecan honestly say this is the worst hotel that we have ever stayed in. Our roon was small with a tiny en-suite, it was boiling hot and without air con. Everything in the room stunk of smoke, the bed was rock hard and the pilows had no filling! We were kept awake all night (yes really) by the German boy racers driving up and down the road outside with music booming! We complained to our Crusader rep in the morning as we had been told we woud be spending our last night here and we hoped she could do something about it as we knew there were rooms at the back which were away from the noise. however, upon our return we had an even smaller room more like a cupboard.! the en-suite was miniscule with a dangerous step which my husband broke his toe on! We still had the boy racers all night!!! The food was bland and thrown onto our plates by the waitress in a fashion that We have never seen before. The dining room was extremely cramped. To say something that we liked about this place if very difficult, maybe the exterior especially when we were leaving it.

We stayed at The Hotel Ochsen last week and to say we were dissapointed is an understatement. We were put into a room which had the smallest shower and toilet room I have ever seen; I am 5ft tall and husband is 6ft and if you used the loo there was absolutely no way of shutting the door! So we were moved to a much better room fortunately. We found the staff generally very surly and rather unsmiling except for one girl. I am a vegetarian so I did not expect too much food wise but even I was shocked by what was dished up to us; a clear greasy soup that had originally been the water used to boil up the chicken ( I kid you not!) for the meat eaters and vegetarians alike and one particular evening we were given a plate of instant mash, frozen veg and something supposedly sausaged shaped for the veggies cosisting of goodness knows what! If you were thirsty and wanted a drink for your dinner then you paid for it and had no choice otherwise as there were never any jugs of water left on the table and no bread when you had their soup all in all an awful hotel!

"a black forest gem"
stan. yorkshire
We have stopped at the ochsen several times since
2004 with a coach party from yorkshire and have
enjoyed it every time.Armin the owner is very funny
especially when he has his bingo night and he has recently
learned to play the keyboard very entertaining as well.
Prisca in the cellar bar is great very good sense of humour
& popular with the customers little as she is.
We are going back there again this may on route to italy
looking forward to it.

This lovely little hotel on the edge of the Black Forest is a fantastic base if you want to go exploring.
With easy access to Strasbourg, Offenburg and other Black Forest destinations, you would be mad not to go to this hotel.
It is a family run hotel and is very popular with coach tour operator Travelsphere which is who I stayed with.
The hotel has a fantastic restaurant where you will get meals beyond belief, its not a la carte, its proper grub at this hotel.
The bedrooms are reasonably sized with comfy beds, just make sure you get a room with a nice village view otherwise you might be kept up at night as the other rooms overlook the courtyard of the hotel which has its bar near by which is open until 1am every day..

When I went the bar was run by a young girl from the Philippines. She is one of the most freindliest people you could meet, and loves to sing and play games with everyone. Once you go, even if you stay for a few days or a week, she will remember you and the best thing is that if you have been about 2 or 3 times then you become one of the regulars, and she will literally run up to you and give big hugs.

But seriously, you couldn't fault the hotel. Some people may feel that the hotel is rushed and the staff can be pushy, but for such a small hotel trying to cope with a huge demand from tourists I think it deserves a 5/5.

Now you might wonder where I got the title of Korky's little hotel from, well nearby in the village of Kork lives a Stork called Korky and it keeps a watchful eye on the hotel.

If you can find your room and stay in your room for more than one night, do not expect a change of linen. Wasps nesting behind my mirror. Had to complain about the food...the plates were whipped away and the chef shouted...you have the set menu tomorrow..obviously thought we were with the coach party!. This Hotel squeezes and I mean squeezes as many tables as they possibly can in order to accomodate the coach parties...cut the rooms in half..and all i can say is...if anyone thinks the food is good, must be starving from the travelling!.all in all...not value for money..an insult to german hospitality and cuisine. You have been warned.
If you are unfortunate enough to stay in this Hotel...there is a small restaurant hidden down a small court yard...about three mins walk from hotel.. good value meals with charming people.
The ironic thing is...the wife from the hotel comes to wave you off with a big smile on her face...you feel as if you are on a conveyor belt with them..and the astute among us will laugh...i saw the husband sitting down counting money!

  • Liked — Had to think hard but I suppose the outside of Hotel LOOKED welcoming and traditional
  • Disliked — Rooms very small compared to other german Hotels of same similar price range and location
