“Wonderful hotel, excellent food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

We were greeted warmly by Hannelore when we arrived and shown to a large room overlooking the neighboring farmland. We used their wonderful sauna; it did take awhile to warm up but it gave us a chance to take a relaxing walk nearby. We had one of the best dinners ever that night and felt like we were given special attention. The following morning, we were shown to the breakfast room which had a wide variety of choices. I miss their Black Forest ham! We would definitely stay here (and eat here!) again.

Very clean and nice hotel, very quiet and nicely decorated in the german style - very warm, the kind of place you almost feel at home. You are welcomed by the owners - both very keen to help you - and the rooms are very clean. Ask for a quiet room on the back of the Landhof. Reasonnable prices for one night about 90 € + breakfast - but dont hesitate to take the breakfast at the hotel it is excellent ( you have few chances to find something else several k s around anyway !) . Food at the restaurant is good - but a bit expensive for the quantity you get - and the sauna is not working unless you ask for it 3 hours in advance.

My wife and I go out of our way (literally) to re-visit zur Grenze - because we know for certain we will always have a very enjoyable stay. The property is very attractive in the typical style of the region, and maintained to the highest standards. Hannelore and George are the most welcoming and friendly of hosts and, of course, George works miracles in the kitchen!
The food really is excellent - always using top quality ingredients, and prepared with imagination and great skill. This is not cheap food (nor is it expensive), but it represents very good value when the quality, taste, and environment is taken into account.
The room-rate is reasonable, and breakfast is prepared using ingredients chosen for their taste and quality. George will prepare your eggs just exactly as you like them.
If you are visiting this area - or even if you can make a detour - you will be sure to have an excellent stay at this hotel. If you are touring southern Germany, you should certainly include Landhotel zur Grenze in your plans.

Room Tip: All rooms are a good size - from our experience. Several have a balcony which is nice if the weather...

We stayed for 3 nights in late July to spend time with family and friends. The hotel is located less than 5 minutes from the center of Isny in gorgeous and peaceful surroundings.

There is ample parking right in front of the custom built, yet traditionally looking hotel. Rooms are of an average to large size and decorated in cozy reds and brown with lots of natural wood used for walls and ceilings. The only downside for me is the lack of internet in the rooms, though free internet is provided in the public areas.
Our room had a generous sized balcony with views over the meadows and woods that surround the hotel. The bathroom is large and provides all amenities required.
Needless to say that rooms, restaurant and public areas are spotlessly clean.
The hotel only has 14 rooms, most of which come with balcony.

There is one restaurant in the hotel serving dinner every day except Monday. The food is a mixture of local and international specialties, focusing on local/seasonal products. We had one outstanding and delicious dinner there. They also have an extensive international wine list with very reasonable prices. The large restaurant gets busy regularly, particularly on weekends.

What makes this hotel a true gem is the extremely personal and friendly service provided by all staff as well as the owners. Everybody seems to be keen to make your stay outstanding, without being intrusive. Mr and Mrs Rainer, the owners are gracious hosts, caring about each and every one of their guests. The service provided goes above and beyond what one would expect. The Owner/Chef Mr Rainer came out of the kitchen to help us tying bow ties whilst he really could have spent his time better in the kitchen prepping for a busy service.

Don't expect the modern amenities of an international chain hotel. Expect outstanding, friendly service and a cozy environment with the friendliest staff imaginable and be ready to experience hospitality at it's best.

Will we stay there again? Without the shadow of a doubt!

We stayed here 3 nights in late July when we travelled to Isny and Kempten to visit friends and family. The hotel sits on a pristine hill with views of the beautiful countryside. Guest room is comfortable albeit without the modern-day comforts i.e. LED screen, Internet WiFi. Given the small number of rooms (12), breakfast experience is very personalized and we appreciate the attention to details. Jams, local honey, a-la-minute eggs, and more add to a very impressive spread.

The restaurant offers an amazing regional cuisine and outstanding service! The hotel only has 12 rooms, but the locals fill up the dining room every night we were there.

Even if you don't stay here, we recommend visiting the restaurant once or twice.

Me and my boyfriend have stayed at this hotel twice, first for one night during a European road trip in Autumn 08 and we loved this place so much we returned for three days in January this year.

The setting is perfect. The hotel is surrounded by gently undulating fields (meadow in the Autumn, blanketed with snow in the Winter) and forest, and the quaint provincial town of Isny is only a ten minute walk. It half an hour to the nearest ski slopes.

The hotel is furnished and decorated to a very high standard with great attention to detail in a rustic yet sophisticated chalet style - the hotel photos do not do it justice. The hospitality given by the hotel owners George and Hannalore is far superior to any other hotel I've ever stayed at, expect to wile away an hour at the bar with a large beer/ glass of the finest wine chatting to George and eating the delicious bar snacks while Hannalore conscientiously yet unintrusively tends to your every need.

The main event comes in the evening when George cooks up a Michelin star worthy 3 course dinner for a very modest price (around £25 inc wine). Locals and natives from further afield are obviously happy to travel to spend a night dining at the hotel. Don't even consider staying here without dining.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough and can't wait to return in 2010.
