This is a large conference and group tour hotel but is very central for exploring Wernigerode and the Harz railway. The dinig room is large but split into sections. The buffet ls extensive and the food quality very good. Look out for the ice cream trolley! The rooms are comfortable and quiet. all round satisfaction.

Positives:- The food was excellent and the staff very attentive and pleasant. The hotel was very clean. The position of the hotel makes for a simple and short walk to the town centre and to the steam railway.
Negatives:- the cost of wi fi was very expensive and not very reliable. Had to stand in the corridor to get my emails. The rooms are fairly basic, much like any transient hotel with no drawers for clothes and no mirror over the table. The desk chair was very cheap. Had to ask three times for extra pillows.

Travelled here with Great Rail Journeys. An excellent hotel for large groups. Buffet style breakfast and dinner ensured there was something for everyone. Different selection of Movenpick ice creams available every evening. Ideally situated in a quiet location. Comfy, quiet room. Slept very well. Agree with other reviews that pillows were thin - I found folding it in half solved the problem. Object to the comment of WildeHilde as an "old people hotel". They may not realise that mature travellers are demanding and exacting - speaking as a 59 year old!

We stayed here as part of a Great Rail Journeys trip to Harz Mountains.

The hotel is ideally located for the station for the steam trains and DB. It is a large hotel which caters for coach trips/rail trips.

Dinner each night was a buffet meal, with at least three choices of starters, main course and desserts and salads. We thought the food was very acceptable, if a little salty. One thing we did appreciate was that the vegetables were fresh! We chose to eat here on our 'free' evening instead of in the town - it was very good value just 19 Euro for as much as you could eat.

Breakfast was also a well stocked buffet. There was lots of choice.

The rooms were quite large and clean. The downsides were the dreadful thin pillows - as is the norm in Germany, a hard mattress, no aircon, no tea/coffee making facilities, a bath with the heated towel rail at behind your head with the thermostatic valve sticking out, and expensive bottles of water. My tip would be to go and buy your water from either the Edeka supermarket or Lidl just a few minutes walk away.

We had an issue one day with the room not being cleaned, but after speaking to reception, it was cleaned and the bed was made.

The staff here had limited English, but were generally friendly.

The hotel was mainly chosen for its location, within a 10-minute level walk from the railway stations (both DB and HSB). Large and modern as it is a conference hotel. Room was large and clean, with bath and shower. All worked well. Breakfast was the usual continental buffet style and kept well stocked. General service from staff was friendly and good. English is spoken but possibly not by all members of staff. Did not use the restaurant. Would certainly not hesitate to use the hotel again. Wernigerode was very quiet during my stay and I could sleep with the window open, which in view of the exceptional weather was just as well. The bed was low and comfortable but I echo the comment elsewhere that the pillows were almost non-existent and I had to boost mine with a travel pillow. This is not unusual in continental hotels anyway. Also no tea-making facilities but an excellent glass of tea was available in the evenings in the restaurant for just over 2 Euros. I am a 65+ independent traveller so the 65+ coach travellers were of no concern to me. At least they were orderly and well behaved. In all, a very good choice of hotel.

Bug mediocre hotel, mostly filled with 65+ visitors on bus tours. The rooms are rather old and uncomfortable. The breakfast is rather disappointing - mediocre food served in a great hall. The position is good as it is near the town center of Wernigerode, but there are better hotels in the area for the same price.

We stayed for 4 nights visiting the Harz mountains. The steam railway is a 2 minute walk to view, or 5 minutes to the station. Excellent staff providing excellent service. The rooms are a bit sparse - no cupboards, drawers nor a safe. But the food was of an excellent standard. If you're staying independently make sure you book the grill restaurant in advance as it is always fully booked. In all a thouroughly enjoyable stay.
