I popped in for a beer one evening and suggested this place for a meal to my partner. She agreed and we went the following night. It looks like an old brewery from the back but fronts onto a street just of the Market Place where most of the restaurants are situated. Inside, the decor reminded us of an early Berni Inn or Beefeater with highly themed rooms (loads of timbers;false roofs and little raised seating areas - a sort of pastiche Alpine theme). We were given a table fairly quickly but then the service went downhill. One waiter eventually came and gave us a menu and we tried to order some beer - he took our order then went away and a little later an waitress came round to take our food order. As we had not had time to look at the menu fully she headed off but I tried to chase up our drinks. The original waiter then came back to take our order for food but without our drinks! After a reminder he went away again. The girl eventually brought our drinks and before she dashed off again I gave her our food order. (Are you still keeping up with me?) So we sat with our beers and waited and waited and the people who came in after us got their meals and so did the people who came in after them. Various hand gestures to the staff resulted in nothing and just as we were about to give up and head off somewhere else our meals finally arrived, but which time we were ready for more drinks - you guessed it - they came as we finished our meal!! Anyway the food was fine and the portions were on the generous side. The menu is large and although pork does feature heavily there are other dishes available. The restuarant gets very busy and the staff were rushing about all over the place so we did what we often do - get up from our table and go the lady by the till and ask to pay. This usually works well as they think you are trying to sneak out without paying. We settled the bill - very reasonable priced but no tip!!! A beer in the Brauhaus round the corner was now well deserved. I am recommending the Kartoffelhaus as it is an interesting building with a small patio at the rear and rooms are available. The food was fine - shame about the service and I hope you don't have the same experience as we did, but do give it a try.
