My family of four stayed in the castle earlier this month (July 2019). Our stay in the castle was wonderful. The food was delicious, the service was fantastic and the view of the Rhine Valley was marvelous. Our only regret was not having more time to spend there.

We decided to splurge on accommodations for our kids' first visit to the Rhine, and decided to return to Schoenburg, where my wife and I had previously stayed. Wow! Like a fine wine, Schoenburg seems to only get better with age -- not only is it still a wonderfully atmospheric place to stay, but now a gourmet 5-course meal and splendid breakfast buffet is part of the experience. Our kids were simply blown away by the beauty, history, and luxury of Schoenburg -- thank you for making our stay so memorable!

Profile: Family of 5 looking to stay in a castle over the Rhine. Initially we were going to try to stay at the youth hostel that is in the castle in Bacharach but that was booked months in advance. This place was founded through some tripadvisor searches. We wanted a place that was close to Bacharach. This is about 7 km away. It is in the high end of stay in a castle at 350 a night plus 85 for 5th person. This included a spectacular dinner for each night we were there plus breakfast. You drive up to either the lower or uppper parking lot. There is porter service during certain hours. To save on money, we decided to go with Room 34 which was adequate for 5 people. A cool room with the bathroom behind the bookcase door. Be mindful that there is no a/c. Day one that we were there, the termparture was 90 outside. Somewhat of an uncomfortable night even with the fans that were provided. Night 2 was a bit for tolerable but night by a whole lot. Windows can be opened but they have no screens to the risk of bugs flying in is a consideration. Overall, I would recommend doing it one night with the dinner. Breakfast was not hot but cold but with variety if you don't mind cold.
