“Beautiful hotel restaurant staff need customer service skills”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2013

We stayed at the hotel in September. It is a beautiful hotel. Very quiet and relaxing. I was, however, disappointed with the restaurant staff. The food was great! However, if you do not speak or read German you will struggle. The menus are completely in German. And even though one staff member spoke a little English, they saw us struggle to read the mention and figure out what the meals were. We had to take out our phones and translate each word to figure out what we would be ordering. They did not offer to help.
At the end of the evening, we asked what time they would close the bar/restaurant. We wanted to go back the room drop off our cameras and come back for a night cap. It was 9:40 pm. We were told that they closed at 11 pm. We ran upstairs dropped off the cameras and came we're back in 10 minutes. We found the restaurant and bar closed. The door was locked. We were disappointed. Had they told us they were closing as soon as we left, we would have taken the drinks to the lobby. The front desk service was great. It the one women in the restaurant who was lead and spoke some English that needs customer service skills.

It would be difficult to find a more impressive setting. The rooms are second to none and most of them have fantastic views of the Edersee. The breakfast buffet is impressive by any standard, and the restaurants are very good too. The only fly in the ointment: it is fairly expensive. Nevertheless, our stay was very delightful. If you are into cycling, the ascent from the Edersee to the castle will be a challenge. The area is very good cycling terrain.

Room Tip: A room with a view on the Edersee side is recommended. Book in advance.

Hotel Schloss Waldeck is an old Castle decorated in a very modern way without losing the mystery of old times. It is well approachable and at the same time located in the middle of a beautiful nature which makes it the ideal place to spend a relaxing Weekend without having to travel so far. Unforgettable view over the lake Edersee catches your eyes in every corner of the place. Ideal visiting time of the year spring and autumn.

Room Tip: book your room early

…..you got it. This is a great place to stay. Romantic and sophisticated but not pretentious. It's a gorgeous property that overlooks a beautiful lake. The rooms are not what you'd expect. You may imagine dark and "old" but they are actually very modern and decorated in a contemporary fashion. Tour the countryside from this castle and imagine Medieval Times. Take the boat ride on the lake.

Room Tip: Ask for a Lake View

We had the pleasure of spending a glorious night at the Hotel Schloss Waldeck in September. The weather was misty and added to the allure of this wonderful hotel. There is a marvellous mixture of old and new with modern and well appointed rooms set in a historic medieval setting. The room was spotless, the staff was exceptionally helpful and spoke better English than I do! This is a blissful setting, off the beaten path, that feels very genuine and authentic! If you are looking for the real deal, this is it! We also checked out the onsite museum (spooky) and ate at the restaurant (fantastic)!!

It's a castle hotel perched on a small mountain overlooking a lake. Brilliant! And the hotel accommodations are very good - no apologies made nor needed. Very dreamy for kids, romantic for couples and even pretty cool by yourself.

This is a thoroughly refinished castle and the hotel rooms rock. This is one of the stops on a Disney Europe tour, so it meets Disney standards. The rooms are modern but fit an upscale castle.

Lots to do in the area. Close driving proximity to Rupenzel and Sleeping Beauty castles. Gondola ride down mountain as well as toboggan run in summer. You get a MeineCard when you check in which gives you free access to quite a few activities in the area.

Room Tip: If you book a lake view room, ask for the 4 or 5th floor to get the best view.

This was a groovy place to stay - delightful to stay in a castle, the views were spectacular, and the region perfect for exploring. The breakfast was incredible, healthy, and plentiful. We also found the front desk staff excellent at check-in and solving problems (mainly managing our few concerns well and guiding us to activities and drives nearby).

The room was very nice - but the blood splatters above the bed from insects was, frankly, disgusting. We asked this be cleaned twice and when it was not done raised it as an issue at checkout. Otherwise, room and bathroom clean and comfortable.

We were all looking forward to the spa....but were told it needed to be booked in advance! We were able to arrange...something awful. The staff had horrible body odor, no skill, and minimal engagement. I let the front desk know of our concerns. I would suggest people avoid the spa.

The kitchen is also a bit disorganized. Some things on their menu (e.g. apple strudel) need to be ordered in advance and are only available between certain hours. What they have is excellent and we preferred their fine dining over their casual dining.

We enjoyed the stay. Suggest, however, re-setting your expectations if you're considering a visit. We just chuckled and said "its a castle in the middle of a national park....enjoy the experience, the area, and company!"

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the lake - worth it!
