A trip on the boat is well worth it and the soup served was delicious. You could got to the dam and surrounding area or up stream. It is also possible to do both which was the option we took and were glad we did so.

“The most scenic place in the valley of Eder”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

Lake Edersee is formed behind the dam built to facilitate water transportation. Long, very long trail of backwaters gives excellent opportunities for sailing, boating, travelling on cruise boats. The road from nearby towns is winding along green forests and in peak of German summer, it is really very beautiful and scenic. No wonder many local and tourists make the most of it driving or riding motorcycles.
Along the way, there are several small jetties where numerous sailing boats are berthed for occasional rides by the owners. There are many restaurants on the way to the dam and on the other side as well. Some of them provide excellent atmosphere on the waterfront.
Tourist area near dam has a small exhibition and would host centenary celebrations in August 2014.

This could also be an excellent option for family vacation with kids. Cycling along the lakefront, rowing, boating or cruise are many options to spend time in scenic surroundings which also has other tourist attractions,

“Great location for one or two days with kids”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

We have been at the Edersee three or four times now in total.
Last trip was on Eastern 2014 with our two kids (2 and 5) and a friend. Even if it was crowded regarding cars and parking space it was a great day: We rent an e-boat for one hour, very relaxing. After that we checked the playground facilities at Strandbad Waldeck:Great and enough sitting facilities for making a pick-nick. After that we took the old - or ancient :-) - Bergbahn going up to Schloss Waldeck. That was so funny, such little cabins. My husband assume that the windows of the of the small cabins of 1961 must be the windows of the former VW Käfer. (4 EUR for a return ticket per adult)
Finally we enjoyed the amazing, absolutely amazing view from the platform from Schloss Waldeck (free entrance). We saw that spot the evening before in the German movie "The Schlussmacher" of Matthias Schweighöfer. In the Schloss yard was a kind of snack bar. It was okay and offered cake and sausages with chips.
And then: Down it goes again with the VW Käfer cabins :-)
Finally we stopped at the "Sperrmauer, what a great construction. It offers a museum in the wall, we visited last time. Very interesting.

On a flyer we saw that there are a lot of other sites and facilities which can be enjoyed at the Edersee region. Thus, we will be back for sure.

“A walkers' paradise”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

Edersee is a huge reservoir created by the 48m high Edersee Dam. Along large sections of its perimeter runs a road accompanied by wide pavement for walkers.

On the eastern side walkers can cross the spectacular dam and explore the interior of the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, a UNESCO Word Heritage Site. There are plenty of facilities along the route with fabulous views from many hills dotted all over.

Note there are no passable roads in the interior and beyond Bringhausen,

Get a map from your hotel or a tourist centre and follow one of the many marked trails.
