I entered my room and the heat was off and both windows were wide open. It was around 30 degrees outside. I shut the windows and turned up the radiators, but they did a poor job radiating heat. The shower had mold between the tiles and the soap dish was hanging from it's rusty hinge. Wallpaper was peeling, wifi connection sucked, my pillow was yellow and the sound of the train outside kept me up at night. I slept with all my clothes on because it was freezing. When I pulled my nasty towel off the rack, a ball of black hair fell to the floor.

The Hotel Eichsfeld is a no-frills typical German basic town hotel. Only a few minutes walk from the main station and about 10 minutes more through the town to the riverside.
My single room was big enough to be a double. Plenty of wardrobe space, a comfortable bed, but some rickety furniture. The bathroom was small as was the shower. Be warned - if you have a room at the front of the hotel and you leave the window open you will hear the trains at least every 15 mins through the day, but only 30 minutes during the night! Great for access to Frankfurt/Mainz or lower Rhine Gorge.
There was no lift, but only three floors. A nice restaurant bar adjoins the hotel and appears to be quite busy with the local office workers during the lunch period.
Breakfast was basic but adequate. The reception is only open until 10.00 pm, so you must telephone in advance if you are likely to be later.
