“Its all good!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2013

Really enjoyed our stay here. This hotel is in the middle of the town (it was a bit difficult to find at first as I had the name "Hotel Flair" and this has Schneider written on the building, but it's all the same I believe.

The accommodation was new, clean and modern. The wifi was great and it was free to use. (The hotel is spread over a few buildings, so sometimes maybe a bit patchy, but generally no issues). The breakfast was also a really good spread.

As it is a really small town, we ate at the restaurant also and it was all great. I really enjoyed every minute of our stay here and can't fault this place on anything.

If you are looking for a place to stay overnight in the area, I would definitely recommend it (we did a trip to Weltenburg Monastery in the afternoon and then came to spend the night here - so worth it!)

We reserved room based on web site information and fact it was a brewery where we have had good experiences in the past when travelling Germany. Add Hotel Schneider to the list. What a delight. Our accomodation was in their new addition. It was modern, comfortable and more than we expected for the price. The restaurant was excellent and the outdoor deck (beer garden) on the waterfront was fun for afternoon relaxation and a couple of very tasty beers from the brewery. A lot of old world charm and a quaint small village add to the experience. The hotel is not directly on the Danube as we thought it was but on an adjacent but much smaller waterway and across from a fairly busy and noisy local highway which did quiet down at night. The back of the property sits just below a steep rock cliff and in the middle of a narrow and small charming village. An excellent choice for bikers, hikers and travellers exploring Germany's back roads along the Danube.

Room Tip: We stayed in the new addition and were quite pleased.

We were impressed from the first step in the hotel. We were greeted very friendly, after a long journey fed a delicious meal, drink a wonderful beer, lived in a comfortable room with private bathroom, equipped much better than stated for three stars.
Very good hotel in very good place!

This Gasthof is situated in the lovely village of Essing on the Altmühl near Kelheim . There is a bus-connection several times a day with Kelheim and from there you can go by boat to the Weltenburg Monastery and their nice Restaurant-Beer-Garden . Unfortunately not all of us could stay in the nice and clean Hotelrooms but had to put up with a dark appartment withour a view and very uncomfortable beds . All food in the Restaurant of the Brauereigasthof was kind of ' so so ' ... and a bit too expensive for what it was . Local Franconian wines were about 4 Euro for a 0,2 glas . Beer was nice and the price opf it okay .

Room Tip: Their Flair Hotel rooms are good .

My wife and I recently stayed at the guest house and brewery. We stayed in their new building that is just a few months old. The room was very clean and comfortable. The owner's son Matthew was very helpful on our arrival, helping us plan our sightseeing for the next day. We expressed an interest in the brewery and Matthew said he would talk to his father about it. While having dinner at the restaurant, which is also where they serve breakfast that is included with the room, the owner asked us if we would like to tour the brewery that evening. After dinner, which was delicious, we recieved a personal tour of the brewery. What a treat, definitely one of the highlights of our vacation. They have been brewing beer there for over 350 years, snd it is some of the best I have ever drank.

Small gasthof belonging to Schneider Brewery in Essing, Bavaria ("the small
brewery in the Altmuhl Valley"). Schneider makes the best Weitzen (Weissbier)
on earth and this was the original brewery.

The Altmuhl Valley is a Blue Ridge sort of long valley with the Amsterdam to
Black Sea canal running through it, as well as the Danube River. The area is a
couple hours from Munich and an hour or so from Nuremberg and less to
Regensburg, as well as close to the Bavarian Wald and premier hops country in
the Hollertal.

The guest house is fine if you are staying in the area, which has a lot to offer
for outdoors people and lovers of the baroque churches and monasteries
around--and except for the occasional Dutch tour bus, few tourists. The rooms are fine and less than $50 for a single or
$75 for a double. Clean, although mine smelled a little musty (that's what
travel candles are for).

The best is the area: Essing is a beautiful village with huge Juraissic cliffs.
And the ability to sample almost a dozen beers with fish, game, local meat
(especially lamb) at the restaurant overlooking a small stream and walk or crawl
next door to your room.

And when the bells ring to call you to the lovely church.....

  • Liked — The brewery attached and the scenic area around
  • Disliked — Smelled musty
  • Tips/Secrets — Great value, great area
