I've stayed here more times than I can remember & it remains my first choice for Munich. The staff are really helpful & friendly, especially the gents behind the bar. Really nice food - I prefer to eat in the bar to the restaurant, same menu but better atmosphere. Only downsides are the 2 storey rooms on the top floor - housekeeping always unlock the room door to the fire escape so anyone could wander into your room - but just ask for single storey room, plus the gym is tiny but functional. Otherwise great hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights from 18 January 2013. As a Priority Club Gold Member we were upgraded to a 'suite' ...

Reception staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had free wifi access during the entire stay (they even asked how many devices we had and gave us a total of four access codes). Whether this was because I was a gold member or it's the hotel's standard policy I couldn't say.

There are two elevators - one either side of the main staircase. Strangely they are not 'synched' with each other so it can be a bit of a lottery pressing the button for each of them and standing halfway between them waiting to see which one may arrive!

The 'suite' was a little cramped. There was a small seating area downstairs, along with the bathroom. A small sofa and armchair, plus a desk and chair. Then there's a steep flight of stairs up to the sleeping area whic, although slightly larger than the seating area, had a sloping roof over the area where tea and coffee facilities are located, resulting in me banging my head virtually every time I stood there (I'm 6'3" so this does have an influence on this!).

The teabags were extremely weak, and there are sachets of powdered milk - in a relatively dark room without my glasses and not really speaking German, identifying which of the (five I believe) little sachets contained powdered milk was not easy. Also, on the first day there was only one mug - rectified the following day.

The beds were pretty comfortable, nice warm (but light) duvets and good pillows.

The bathroom was very small, with a small shower cubicle and very little area near the sink to place toiletries. The shower pressure was generally good. A bonus was a heated towel radiator!

The rate we paid for the first three nights was reasonable but a cancelled flight back to London resulted in an additional two nights at the hotel - and the rate increased by about 40% - whether this was because they were weeknights or because I could no longer take advantage of the advanced booking rate was undetermined.

We had a burger in the bistro bar on our first day - it was very good. We ate in the restaurant one night and, to be frank, the food was quite poor - a very dried out turkey steak and an average ribeye steak. Presentation was good but the food was generally unacceptable for the price.

We didn't have breakfast at the hotel so I can't comment on that, although I recall it cost 20 Euros per person.

We had already checked into a non-smoking room and unpacked before thinking of checking whether there were actually smoking rooms (there are). However, there was a roof terrace on the 4th floor (where we were located) that provided a reasonably accessible place to have a cigarette (albeit somewhat cold!)

The hotel is located to the south of Munich city centre and was around 55 minutes drive from the ski area at Sudelfeld (which is why we chose this particular hotel). It's approximately 6 to 8 minutes walk from the train station where there are regular trains into the city centre - and always on time, despite the snow! There is underground parking available at the hotel at a fee, but free open air parking is available just a short 2 to 3 minute walk from the hotel.

Stayed at HI Munich Hochstrasse for years and last stay provided the straw that broke this camel's back. Internet access at crazy price, pointless pool but no gym, breakfast totally over priced and mainly unfriendly service.
Very happy with my first stay here in Unterhaching, 4 nights. Attentive staff, nice room, free of charge internet (!!!), a small but OK gym, lots of interesting shopping around and not too far form the city.
Yes, it is not in the town centre, I agree but really not too big an issue.
5/5 from me. Thank you and see you again!!!

Stayed here for our last night of our 2 week Europe vacation because we were flying out of Munich the next day.

The Taufkirchen S-Bahn train stop is only a five minute walk from the hotel so we took the train into Munich that evening. Very convenient.

We had a rental car and the hotel is very near to 2 autobahns so it was easy getting to the hotel from the highway.

The room was very modern and clean.

We ate breakfast at the hotel and it was very good.

Highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here over New Year 2012/2013 for 5 nights, with another couple.

No complaints here, from checking in to checking out it was a pleasant stay.Almost all staff we encountered were very helpful and courteous. A special mention to (I think her name was Angelina (German girl on reception, that lived in the USA for a few years) she was very friendly and helpful at every occasion, very pleasant to deal with, helping us to change rooms after a couple of days - as my wife needed a room with a bath.
The only member of staff we had a problem with was the barman on New Years Day. We found it unbelievable that we were unable to get a drink at 11:10PM - and were informed that the bar closed at 11PM !!

Nice clean, tidy rooms. There were refurbishments going on at the time we stayed, but this was in the new restaurant, and didn't affect our stay whatsoever.

We did not eat in the hotel, so cannot comment on the quality of the food. There is a IHMO just 100 yards from the hotel, that does great coffees and pastries for breakfast - and a full breakfast served in the pan ! A great idea.

Train Station is just a simple 5-10 minute walk, with the train just 20 mins into the centre of Munich. You can buy the ticket for the train at reception - it was 10Euros and this ticket covered up to 5 people (bargain) - an even bigger bargain if you don't put it in the machine at the station (as I forgot !!) and you can use it the following day :-)... The trains are at 5 past the hour and every 20 minutes - and believe me - they are always spot on time - that's German efficiency for you.

We used the hotel as a base and travelled out by car to Austria and Italy which was wonderful - travelling through the Alps in January. We parked the car in the Free car Park which was a 5 minute walk around the corner.
There is a McDonanlds nearby, and an Aldi and Lidl, as well as a Retail Park with a variety of shops (couldn't get my missus out of the large Shoe Shop !!!)

There is a great Chinese restaurant next door to the hotel - which served some of the best Chinese food I've tasted (especially the King Prawn in Garlic and ginger) Yum !!

Again, can't fault the hotel or the Staff, a pleasant stay - would recommend.

We greatly appreciate your very nice feedback and we are glad to know that you have enjoyed your stay with us.

I traveled to Munich on October 2012, with my husband and 3 other friends. We found the hotel It is located in a quiet location, the rooms are clean and comfortable, good breakfast but expensive, really nice staff even if we arrived at the hotel hours before the check-in, close to the train station and 20 minutes by train to the center.

We have family in both Unterhaching and Taufkirchen, and wanted a good hotel near to them for this trip. We look for a full service hotel at a reasonable price, and this hotel filled that bill well. The people there are extremely pleasant and most helpful.
A note about the rooms:.we stayed here before, some years ago, and were on the top floor. Our room was a two-story affair, having a main floor/living area with a sleeping alcove above. This time, our room was another two-story affair, with a living room and kitched above, and a bedroom and bath below, joined by a very narrow spiral staircase. Turns out there was an entrance to the room on both floors. However, with bad knees and 100 pounds of luggage, I found this arrangement impractical, and asked for a single-story room, which we were provided with immediately.
That means they exist. A two-story room can work well for business people, and this hotel is primarily used for business; many meetings while we were there, and long lines of people checking out in the mornings. However, as non-commercial travelers, we prefer one room on one floor. I mention this because - if you book this hotel - know what you may get, or be specific in your request.
With the room change, we were comfortable and had a fine stay. There is a restaurant on-site, and a bar with a beer garden and food service - and Ayinger on tap. If you are driving, there is a parking garage available for a fee. We used it, but found the spaces very tight for the VW CC we were driving. This is not uncommon in German parking garages, just be aware that parking may take some maneuvering. If you don't have a car, the train station is close by, with service to Munich Central.
Breakfast is expensive if you are not on an expense account. However, at the entrace to the hotel street, there is an Ihle coffee shop with pastries and a basic breakfast menu which does include eggs. There is a large shopping center close by for further food, and a McDonald's as well.
Don't expect Bavarian charm if you stay here. But you will find a comfortable, clean and friendly hotel with easy access to the Autobahn, close to many of the delights of Southern Bavaria for day trips, and a close drive or train ride into Munich. Would I stay here again? You bet! Clean, comfortable digs, really nice staff and easy access to great destinations.
