“Ideal for a short stay.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2011

A spacious modern bedroom and bathroom both very clean.
The situation excellent,a short walk from the train and bus station.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was poor. There was no hot food and no fruit available.
I would not hesitate to stay again.
Good value for money.

Very central location. The room, tho not luxurious, was very clean and comfortable and despite facing the front of the Guest House and street, quiet. We had a very nice meal in the restaurant in the evening and the breakfast, served from 7.00am, so useful for morning flights, was excellent. Owner and staff friendly.

We arrived at about 10:15hrs on Thursday 7th July and whilst we knew we were early we thought we'd pop in and see if we could leave luggage for a few hours. We didn't quite get that far as as soon as we said room we were told to wait until 12noon. We'd had a long 24hrs and didn't fancy carrying luggage all around so we sat outside and had two excellent cups of coffee.

At 12noon the chap came over and said there were no rooms available and all were booked. We tried telling him we had reserved a room with little success. Fortunately he had the booking diary and we pointed out our name.

We went inside and given the key to the room and told it's number six just at the top of the stairs and staff just went on their merry way.

The room was very very spacious and very clean. It over looked the beer garden at the rear of the Hotel, I was a tad concerned about possible noise but needed have worried as there was little use of the garden and if there had been we wouldn't have noticed as the double glazing was perfect!
Plenty of hanging space for clothes and plenty of electric sockets in the room for charging things back up. Just wish we'd brought more plug adaptors.

Bath room was spotless and huge! It didn't matter when you showered there was plentiful hot water.

Bedding was spotless and the beds were of the very firm variety. As solid as the beds were we did sleep very well.

Towels were changed every day and the room was cleaned perfectly every day.

Breakfast was your usual continental type and nothing to write home about. There was plenty of it though and the coffee was fresh made.

The hotel itself had a slightly tired feel to it, but in a way this added to the charm it had and certainly wasn't a huge distraction.

Location wise the hotel is ideal for everything. Less than a 5 minute walk from the train station and within a 10 minute walk of most of Memmingen.
Front of the Hotel is right on a street which is pretty busy with vehicles but given the sound proofing of room 6 light sleepers shouldn't find front of house rooms noisy.

The first day we were there we went to the station to buy tickets to Neuschwanstein and made efforts to get up early on the 8th. I could have really done with finding out just a few minutes before we were due to leave for the train station that the staff the day before hadn't signed us in and that they had us booked in for the 6th, 7th & 8th and not the 7th, 8th & 9th. It was sorted but could have been easily avoided if staff on the 7th had shown some interest in their guests.

The restaurant was very well priced and in fairness the food was excellent. The schnitzel and various sauces were full of flavour and cooked perfectly. I had a rump steak on the last night and it was cooked "english" style, blue to steak lovers and it was a very tasty piece of steak.
The beer menu was not huge but certainly had enough to keep you occupied for a few nights :-) I found bar prices to be very reasonable and, of course, the beers full of flavour.
Service at the outside tables for food and/or beer was very efficient.

We ordered a taxi for 07:30hrs on our last morning to get us to the Airport. I suggest if you book a cab you book it a tad earlier than what you might need as this one didn't turn up until just before 07:45hrs, might not sound long but when you are running tight for time anyway a delay like this could have cost us a flight. Talking of flights...Memmingen Airport...arghhhh!!!! I have seen more speedy snails than their check-in staff and the place could really do with aircon.

So all in all the Hotel offered service with more emphasis on efficiency than friendliness but did offer an excellent location with very clean & spacious rooms.

Would we stay here again? Possibly but I'd want to perhaps stay at another Hotel in the town to gain a comparison. However I feel the price we paid was reasonable and fair for what we had.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at the Gasthof Zum Schwanen for one night only as we arrived at the small airport in Memmingenberg but were going to Prague the next day. This restaurant/ guesthouse could hardly be more central and we got excellent service. We arrived at 22h at the hotel and as we were leaving the following morning at 6h30 (breakfast starts at 7h), we asked if there was any way we could get some food for the trip. We got surprised when two minutes later we opened the door and got two bags with 2 big sandwiches, a big yoghurt, butter, cheese (each). Great stuff! Also, we asked for a double room, paid for a double room, but got a 2+1 room.
We just walked for about an hour around Memmingen and it is a very lovely small town. You'll be surprised about the beauty of it!
If you're visiting Memmingen or just passing through, I suggest you look no further. Great location, great service and low price. And a beautiful building too!
