“Roman Colony Xanten”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2012

This was the largest colony above Koln. It's size and dimensions are hard to imagine. The park probably takes up less than half of what was once there. The have reconstructed some things and seem to be continuing this effort. The large bath is truly impressive and the building which depicts it's actual dimensions houses a very good museum. The other exhibits included a large guest house, temple, coliseum, gates and watch towers and parts of the wall. There is also a large childrens play area. Other buildings are depicted with shrubs outlining then buildings
dimensions. Because of it's size, be prepared to walk. Also, if the weather is bad it could be a long day although you can spend many hours just walking then museum which is covered.
If you are interested in the roman history of Germany this is a must see.

“I expected more”

9 euros for a lot of walking in an open, green space, only a few things to see resembling the Roman times....

“bit expensive for what it is!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2012

first went here as a child, so decided to return and take my partner with me. it's 9 euros to get in, which is quite steep, although it does include entry to the museum. when you first enter the museum, you get asked to put your bags in lockers downstairs, which is strange considering everything is contained in glass boxes!!! you also get watched everywhere you go in the museum, which is quite daunting! also, we got to the second floor, only to be told to go back to the bottom and come up the other way...i didn't appreciate that as i was in full bike gear!!! bit disappointing for the cost to be honest!
