“Excellent stay for familyWe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013

We stayed for two nights while skiing in Feldberg (a great place to to learn to ski). Our double room was very clean and bright with modern bath with unexpected nice touches. There was plenty of room to unpack, hang cold weather gear, dry boots, and sit on nice balcony. There is an ATM and a bakery in very close walking distance. The food in the hotel restaurant was excellent and a very reasonable value. The family members who own/run the hotel are so helpful and friendly. We were very comfortable there with our children. We used the black forest pass that came with our stay (10 EU deposit each person), and took advantage of free ski lift tickets, swim park entrance, and sledding park entrance. We could not believe the value, and we intend to return soon!

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights while on a touring holiday and its all that you want, clean and comfortable room, good facilities, and good to come back to after a busy day. We'd stay there again and can recommend it.

The hotel is based in a small peaceful village called Altglashutten that is about 6km from the main ski resort at feldberg. The staff are very friendly and speak passable english . Most clients are german. The hotel website is in english but all brochures are in german although i believe there is an english menu . The carspaces are adjacent to the hotel on a slight incline and winter tyres are recommended. The best value is halfboard as the food is excellent with a 4course evening meal. The starters+desert are fixed(but taken from the restaurent menu) but you can choose anything from the menu for the main meal. These range from salmon/trout /steak and venison to local delicacies such as pigs trotters(house speciality). The halfboard for our bedroom suite was 110euros//night for 2adults and the total cost including coffee and 2-3beers each/night was 620eu for 5nights .Which i think represents good value as the main meal alone in the restaurant costs between 12eu and 21eu. The bedrooms were refurbished 3yrs ago to a comfortable standard. TV is limited as the only channels are local and the germans dub all foreign programmes.
There are no tea making facilities in the room but a small supermarket is just down the road and tourist information is in the town hall-which is opposite the hotel. The village contains a bakery and bank but eating out is limited to other family run hotels and it is very peaceful at night.
We went for the skiing in feldberg which i think is a great resort to learn to ski as its a lot cheaper than the alps (4d ski equipt hire 44eu, and personnal lessons are 20eu for 2 hrs)You can buy a ski pass 26eu for 1d -cheaper for longer, or a" points" card. The latter is better value if you are a beginner who mainly uses the blue runs.Food and drink at the resort are not inflated- hot chocolate/beer are 2.50eu.
The hotel will give you a ticket for the free bus which runs hourly to the resort and you can dry your boots in reception. They have an outdoor lockup for the skis.
