“Excellent local fare”
Reviewed February 20, 2014

There are a few restaurants to choose from in Altglashutten but we certainly weren't disappointed that we chose this one.
They didn't - as others have suggested - have an English menu so perhaps they have given up on that but the host was happy to translate the whole thing. We were there quite early in the evening and there were tables to spare but there was still a warm atmosphere. There was plenty of choice including a good selection of meat free options and a child friendly menu.
What we ordered was excellent and the portions were quite generous but everybody still managed to clean their plates.
The recommended wine was more than acceptable and along with everything else was very reasonably priced.

“Great place to hole up on a winter evening”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

We very much enjoyed our evening here. The small place filled up early so that we were forced to sit in the smoking area. No matter, as the Stammtisch regulars didn't show up until later in the evening. The interior was what you might find in your grandmother's house, but it was warm and inviting, and added to the family-friendly appeal. The food was similarly good and filling. The Spaetzle was home-made and delicious, as was the deer goulash, and the apple strudel was fresh, with a crispy, warm crust. Ganter beer is on tap, and the dunkler weizen and doppelbock were outstanding. Prices were modest, with the entire meal running 36 euro for two. The host was also our waiter and was gracious, friendly, and paid attention to detail. (When told of a food allergy, he even checked the spices in the food to ensure there wouldn't be a problem.) It's the sort of place where you can even enjoy a card game (we did) or a family game with a beer or cup of tea. Definitely a place we will frequent the next time we're in the area.

Staying at a nearby inn, we were recommended Schwarzwaldhaus by our hosts and it didn't disappoint. Simply but delectable food and a very friendly proprietor make this place a gem. There's also an English menu for those who are German challenged. Be sure to notice the "Pirate Plate" item on the menu.

“A find among many choices”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

The night we arrived in Feldsburg the restaurant at our inn was closed, so our hosts sent us here, which resulted in a few return trips!
Considering that practically every other building in this area is either a restaurant or hotel (or both), it would be hard to make a good choice. Seems most of the guests were locals which I always consider a good sign.
The food was really good, and the portions very generous. The host/waiter/barkeep/owner is a very pleasant fellow with a wry sense of humor, and we were made to feel quite comfortable.
Fortunately he had a good grasp of English which smoothed things along.
Highly recommended. Good hearty food!
