“Wow, just what you expect from an old Kloster”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2012

Visited with a group of friends to this very old restaurant, which dates back to 1585. Situated just outside the famous Bavarian town of Burghausen, near to the Austrian border. The menu covers a wide range and the beer which is brewed in Traunstein is very drinkable.

The Kloster dates from 1286 so there is a lot of history. Remember never to sit at a table which has a sign "Stammgäste" on or over it, this is reserved for local frequent visitors. See photographs to see how it looks.

“Great food in wonderful surroundings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2011

This is a great "find" tucked away near Burghausen, on the site of a former monastery. Inside the dining rooms are very traditional and have great atmosphere; vaulted ceilings, wooden floors, antiques etc. The terrace also looks wonderful, although we were inside as the weather was a little changeable. The abbey church can be visited and is a beautiful example of baroque architecture - well worth a visit!

“Great apfelstrudl”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2010

It is a large restaurant with more than one room. One is not allowed to sit at the 'guesttable' wich is reserved for everyday guests. Plenty decorated. We had a beer and an appelstrudle, which tasted great! The staff is very friendly, servings are fast. There is also a terrace outside, but we chose to sit inside as it was 36° outside that day. If we ever return, will not hesitate to frequent again.
