Review of Nebelhorn

Nebelhorn
Ranked #3 of 49 things to do in Oberstdorf

The best way to he top is by using the Nebelhornbahn, which is situated in the southern edge of Oberstdorf, and it goes to the top of the mountain in 3 sections. When the cable car is busy, 60 people are packed in and it can feel quite claustrophobic. The journeys are quite short though, as the cable car is very fast. The views at the top are spectacular – it is called the 400 summit view. There are sun loungers at the top, so you can take in the view and get some rays at the same time!

It is possible to walk all the way down, although it is quite steep from the top. From the Hofatsblick station (second station) there is a scenic walk to the Seealpsee, but a return to the station is required as the walk down to Oberstdorf from the See is very difficult.

The cable car ascent costs €23, €22 for the descent and €29.50 ascent and descent. However, this cable car is included in the Oberstdorf Sommer Bergbahnticket Inklusive deal, and is free when you book your holiday with some hotels or holiday apartments. Parking is also free at the bahn car park with this deal.

Munro baggers, think you're tough? Come and have a go on this bad boy! A good path will take you all the way to the summit in three stages. 2200 metres. Alernatively, take the cable car!

The Nebelhorn is located in Oberstdorf, the southern most town in Germany. It offers year round opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty the area has to offer. Hiking trails, ski lifts and trails and just a beautiful place to enjoy nature. A gondola leaves from the base station in town by the Ice Skating Rink and takes you above the tree line to a mid station where you depart the cable car. At this point you either take the next car to the top or you can hike, ski, etc.... from the mid station. At the top station of the next cable car there is a facility with bathrooms, restaurant, gift shop. There is outdoor seating available to enjoy the views. The weather can change quickly in the mountains so be prepared for anything regardless of the time of year.

Returned to this resort, when the promise of getting above the clouds into bright spring sunshine. Superb snow and worth staying high but also do the (not too mad) black down to the middle station before cable car home.

Ask for military discount if you have the ID. It works. Great food and better beer and lovely people.

Loved the cable car! It was a misty snowy day when we took the car to the top. So we did not get a view of our surroundings at all, so we have to return on a sunnier day! I was quite scared when we reached the top and it was freezing so we literally jumped on the next car down without spending long up there. I would recommend it as it is a lovely experience looking down on all the trees and people skiing below are just tiny specks at times! The cable cars run very frequently. I will return and do it again.
