The best way to he top is by using the Nebelhornbahn, which is situated in the southern edge of Oberstdorf, and it goes to the top of the mountain in 3 sections. When the cable car is busy, 60 people are packed in and it can feel quite claustrophobic. The journeys are quite short though, as the cable car is very fast. The views at the top are spectacular – it is called the 400 summit view. There are sun loungers at the top, so you can take in the view and get some rays at the same time!
It is possible to walk all the way down, although it is quite steep from the top. From the Hofatsblick station (second station) there is a scenic walk to the Seealpsee, but a return to the station is required as the walk down to Oberstdorf from the See is very difficult.
The cable car ascent costs €23, €22 for the descent and €29.50 ascent and descent. However, this cable car is included in the Oberstdorf Sommer Bergbahnticket Inklusive deal, and is free when you book your holiday with some hotels or holiday apartments. Parking is also free at the bahn car park with this deal.
