“Worth the trip”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

We were in the area and drove here based on the previous reviews. Unassuming building set back from the road. The owner also owns the fishing hole next door, she was alone but took care of all the fishermen and then took us through to the erabliere. She explained how the sweet water is collected, and the syrup is made. Nothing fancy but really interesting. We got to taste the delicious syrup and maple butter - and bought a whole lot to take home too ( cash only). Definitely worth the drive for this interesting visit

“Sweet experience... to say the least!”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

Ok there is a ton of sugar shack in the Quebec city area but this one is special. Here no restaurant and fancy tours, just a real working operation where the owners will take the time to share their passion for maple products! Here it is about learning the process and challenges of the maple syrup production and of course tasting! The owners are very friendly and willing to take their time explaining the differents steps of the production. The visit is in French but do not let this stop you from visiting them. You can buy maple products at a very reasonable price directly from the producer. Merci monsieur Boily for the great experience

“What a fantastic visit!”
Reviewed July 21, 2012

My family & I wanted to visit a "sugar shack" while visiting Quebec so we went to Ile d'Orleans & stopped at the tourist booth at the beginning of the island. The man there recommended going to Erabliere Richard Boily which I am so glas he did. Richard Boily is at the far end of the island so we decided to start there & work our way back. We visited in July which obviously is not maple syrup season so it looked desolate when we pulled into the driveway except for a sign saying "Nous sommes ici (we are here)". We were greeted by the owner who couldn't be nicer & more gracious! First he asked if we spoke French. When I told him that myself & 2 of my 3 children know a little but my husband & 3rd child know none, he told us he would speak in French very slowly for the 3 of us & translate for the rest. This was a fantastic experience for my 2 that study French in school to have real life experience with the language... They loved it! The owner was so informative & he has a true passion for what he does! After the tour, he let us taste the different products(which were awesome) & buy what you'd like. The price was a fraction of what it costs elsewhere! Since we started here & worked our way back across the island, we saw a few other sugar shacks along the way. Although nice, none of them were as authentic & their prices were about 50% more... The others felt a bit like tourist traps but not Richard Boily! Don't miss it!
