Hotel Weierich
Ranked #2 of 13 Bamberg B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 23, 2013

I stayed at Hotel Weierich with my husband in late May 2013 and had a lovely time. The location of the hotel is in Bamberg's old town, which is definitely where you want to be. It's within walking distance of all the sights in Bamberg and just a couple minutes walk to the river. Front desk staff gave nice recommendations on where to eat and were very friendly. Our room was very spacious and quiet. The only downside was the interesting decor around the hotel, a little bit cheesy and hodge podge, but really nothing to complain about. Breakfast was very nice and had lots of variety, with a nice view of the cobblestone streets of town in the dining area. We would highly recommend Hotel Weierich for your stay in Bamberg! Thank you!

My dad and I recently went on a father-son trip to Germany, visiting six cities total. I most highly recommend this hotel for the following reasons:

My father and I were about five hours early from the normal check-in time. Rather than making a big fuss about it or just having us drop off our bags we were simply upgraded, free of charge, to a double room with separate bathrooms.

The owners and workers at the Weierich are very friendly and there's a mom-and-pop store atmosphere to the place. They offer a large variety of breakfast included in the price of the room. The staff is always very gracious and willing to help, even in English!

My only tip for the Weierich is that if you travel by train, either get a taxi from right outside the station (only about 8-9€) or have the entire route mapped out ahead of time. Bamberg is a very confusing city. All of the streets wind different ways and buildings are so tall that you can't easily find a landmark to use as a reference to your location.

Book this hotel! =)

We just spent two nights in room 10. The room's small but the hotel did ask us our choice of small or larger room, so the room size was my fault. The room was clean and adequate. Bathroom was clean and large enough. The hotel is in a great location 3 blocks from the alte rathaus over the river and near many pubs, restaurants, and shops. Hotel personnel were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great. This was our third stay here and we're booked again in November.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the smaller rooms as there is a vast difference in size. Also, try to avoid rooms faci...

We (me, wife and teenage son) have just returned from a 4 night stay here. If you want modern surroundings, this isn't the place for you - in parts at least, this boasts about 600 years of history. We were in room 31 - family room with large double bedroom with large (huge) double bed and slightly smaller second room with sofa bed (good enough that our 17 year old thought it was an ordinary single and didn't realise it was a sofa bed till we told him), chairs, desk etc. - and shared bathroom within the suite.

No obvious sign of a lift (unsurprisingly in an old building) but stairs to the 2nd floor didn't bother us.

No minibar - just a large cool cabinet near reception with a selection of bottled beers / drinks all at 1 euro each!

Good breakfast in the breakfast room (German style, with plenty of choice) - which overflows into the main restaurant if the hotel is busy (admire the suit of armour in the corner!). We didn't eat in the restaurant (because we were in Bamberg to visit our daughter and she wanted to give us a tour of a selection of Bamberg's breweries) so can't comment on the food there. All the staff were very friendly - and generally spoke reasonable English if required. Having explained why we were in Bamberg, they were also very happy for our daughter to join us for breakfast on 3 mornings - for which no charge was made!

A word of warning - for us it was an attraction, but if you don't like church bells, don't stay here - you are within easy earshot of about 3 sets of lovely bells that start at about 7.30 in the morning (we did speculate whether they compete to see who can get their chimes in first as timing occasionally seemed less than precise).

WiFi was provided, but connecting to it was less straightforward than it might be - after the initial connection you have to register with a service - and log into it again every time you return to the hotel (via your web browser - even if you only want to pick up emails), but once logged in it was solid and reliable.

Bakery opposite the front door was our daughter's 'local' and highly recommended - and the butcher's (beside the hotel, turn right out of the front door) did a nice range of snacks (e.g. warm leberkase semmel was excellent).

Taxis to / from the railway station - very easy. Buses too. Incidentally, for anyone planning excursions (e.g. Nuremburg), be aware of the Bavaria ticket which can be very good value - various options, but e.g. about 30 euros for 3 or 4 people for unlimited train travel for a day within Bavaria (after 9 a.m. and not on ICE / IC trains - and there might be other restrictions so check the details) - finding the right buttons to tap might be a challenge, but buy it at a ticket machine (it costs more in the ticket office . . . but also note that machines may not give change from 50 euro notes!).

Altogether a very pleasant stay.

Location: Great central location. It is located about a 2 or 3 minute walk from the Rathaus bridge, and from two breweries, and a tea shop and coffee shop. There are no open businesses immediately around the location, so it is relatively quiet at night. It is right down town, so parking is an issue. However, the short walk to places to park, is nice.

Facilities: The facilities have been maintained very well. This is a very old building, 100s of years old, so the floors are a little uneven which adds to its charm. It was kept very clean.

Service: Very helpful people staffed the front desk and the breakfast room. We checked in early, and they stored our bags, and wanted to leave town later than check out, and they had a locked closet to keep our bags in. They also had great advice on where to park our car.

Breakfast: They served a very traditional breakfast. Hardboiled eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, breads, fruits, marmalade, coffee, tea, orange juice, etc. Our whole family enjoyed breakfast there.

Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay in Bamberg.

You don't really need a car to get around Bamberg - as the nearby Tourist Information Office will quickly tell you. In fact, the best way to see the city and its many attractions is on foot and the Hotel Weierich is ideally placed to facilitate this exercise. Friendly service, wonderful food and comfortable rooms - all you could ask for in a very special part of Bavaria.

I stayed in this Hotel for a week. The location is great, straight into the centre, close the bridge and Dom. The building is old and full of character. The hotel is managed with love and care. The entrance, breakfast room and staircases are very nice. My room, despite being clean and confortable, lack the character of the rest of the Hotel. In any case this is a very good option if you like to stay in the centre.
