The old courtyard at the old residence is nice enough but nothing special. I wouldn't make a special detour, but if you are seeing the Dom (good) or the Neue Residenz (don't bother!) you should poke your nose in.

This spot in a place of the true heritage of one of the most significant centers of Catholic Bavaria is not to be taken lightly. This area dates back to the findings of the Dom. Though not as flashy as the Dom or the Rose Garden, it is as histoic. Enjoy!

The Old Court is a large cobbled courtyard right alongside the Cathedral and a former Fort. It’s origins are over 1000 years old, with many transformations since. It is nicely restored and part of it is dedicated to a City Museum. The WC here is payable!

Although Bamberg is a historical place with plenty of old buildings and one feels touch of history at every step going through the gate to this place was like to step into another time. Everything looks so authentic, all buildings are very well preserved and nicely decorated by flowers. After a long walking in the town the fact that the place has a public toilet might be also appreciated.

I was here in 2014 and it was under construction so to see it now in 2018 all finished was amazing to me! We strolled around for a while just taking in the historic feelings and smells. The workmanship of the renovation is impressive. Well Done!
Tip: Wear good shoes when touring old places, the cobble stones can be hard to walk on, especially the elderly or people with walking issues.
