“Romanesque Meets Gothic”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2014

This is a very old cathedral or "Dom", built in two different eras in the Romanesque style. Inside it is very dark and oppressive. Apart form the statue of the "Bamberger Ritter", or Knight, there is little else to see here. Just keep moving and don't plan too much time here.

There are many phenomenal buildings and places to see in this beautiful city- this, IMHO, just isn't one of them!

“The DOM at Bamberg, Germany”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2014

One of my favorite places to visit when we are in Bamberg. I love the Bamberger Rider, the organ, just everything about this cathedral. We usually stay at the wonderful hotel very near by and enjoy the bells each time they ring..Last time in Bamberg we attended an organ concert which was a part of the Sand festival...we go to Bamberg almost every summer and go to the Dom each time...

“Don't go on your own the first time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2014

To be honest, if you don't have additional insight or information the cathedral is a church like any other. Go there with one of the cathedral guided tours (a lot of tours take you there). You get information no printed traveller's guide will tell you and can visit places you are not allowed to if on your own. Throughout Europe you find imprints of the cathedral's founders Heinrich and Kunigunde who have founded other cathedrals too. Try to attend the short organ concert on Saturdays.

“Nice church with interesting architecture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2014

A nice church, big and famous. the organ is not in the back as it is normally in Germany, the organ is on the side, high above the people sitting and praying. Very interesting.
