“Lovely hotel !”
Reviewed May 1, 2011

We just loved this hotel ! On arrival we were, in a very friendly way, told all the necessary things, also about Bamberg. The room is kindly decorated, big and clean. Very comfortable. The setting, in an old monastery, is just very special. A large parking in front of the hotel, and only a 5 to 10-minute walk to the lovely center of Bamberg. Breakfast was more than ok, and worth its 5 €. Bamberg was a nice surprise for us, also thanks to this nice hotel !

The hotel is a long way from the train station and not so easy to find. Access is from a lift from the street level which was only in German, so I had to lug my suitcases the long way around up quite a few stairs, and was buzzed in with no easy access in the early evening. However, it's a handy location for access to the old town where all the main sights are. The rooms were very nice and cosy with a view out onto the cloister of the monastery. Breakfast was very good and the staff were attentive. The room was a bit noisy late at night with people above me banging furniture around. Overall it's a pretty good bargain and well worth the money and time invested in getting to the place.

Spacious, clean and tastefully decorated rooms, very helpful and friendly staff, a nice breakfast and an easy walk to the town centre - what more could you want? We would definitely stay here again.

Very pleasantly surprised on many levels. Lovely newly established hotel in the old monastery. Decor plays on this without being overly religious. Loved waking up to the bells in the morning. Staff was very pleasant and spoke perfect english.

Breakfast for 5 E p/p and parking for 5E p/d was a very good deal. Breakfast was standard cold buffet with fresh rolls, cheeses, meats, fruit, juice, coffee & tea. Dining area was large, comfortable & well lit. I've seen a lot less for a lot more.

Very near to old town areas, dom, schloss, breweries, et al. Surprisingly easy walking considering the apparently hilly terrain. Bamberg is lovely and ncely situated for a day trip to Bayreuth and Upper Franconia. And with such convenient parking a great base for exploring the area even a little further to Nurnberg & Wurzberg.

First off, if you are driving with GPS, set the address for Knocklein 1. This will take you to the parking lot. At the gate, press the buzzer to ask for access. Walk across the street (to the back of the hotel) and again, press the intercom for access. Take the elevator up to the Reception floor. You will find the facility to be very secure, with doors staying locked. The Klosters are park of the Convent of St. Theodore, in Bamberg.

The first impression was wide hallways and quiet atmosphere. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was very “roomy”, clean, and relaxing; it looked new! The walk to town was easy and we did it several times a day. There was no mini-bar in the room, but a “kitchen” with access for guests. The breakfast was great -- in a very nice breakfast room. We really enjoyed our stay at the Klosters and felt it was excellent value for the price.

The Arkaden Hotel is only 6 months old, has quite plush furnishings and has been created from a former monastery which adds to the quaintness of this property. It is also situated within a 5 minute walk of the main “town” area.

Our room was beautifully furnished with a 4 poster king bed, timber desk, arm chair and small table, with the only concern being that perhaps the pillows may not suit everyone’s requirements, as they were very soft and not a great neck / head support. Both the bedroom / living area and the bathroom / toilet were of an excellent size and spotlessly clean. Parking is also available directly opposite the hotel at a cost of 5 euro’s per day, whilst a lift provides access from the road entrance to all levels of the hotel.

An internet service is available, as well as wi-fi from the rooms, however, the quality of the wi-fi service was not particularly good during our stay due to a weak signal, apparently caused by the age / thickness of the building walls and management are endeavouring to find a solution to this issue. There is also an in-house bar honesty service available near the reception area, where patrons can help themselves to a variety of drinks and record usage accordingly.

Breakfast was also available at an additional cost of 5 euro’s per person comprising a variety of yoghurts, fruit salad, cereal, cold meats / cheeses and salmon with the option of also requesting cooked eggs. The quality and value of the breakfast was absolutely first class.

Finally, all staff were extremely friendly and were only too happy to assist with any queries, which capped off a lovely stay at this relatively new and still somewhat undiscovered hotel.

Great Value at around US$ 100 / EUR 80 per double per night... Only 6-months old (Completely new, very tasteful facilities inside & out), Be sure to get the large spacious bedroom (We stayed in #4) rather than the bedroom-lounge combi. Very good breakfast (A steal at EURO 5/pax) . Easy walking distance to Old Quarter & fabled Dom. Would not stay anywhere else in Bamberg! Weaknesses: No phone in room, No espresso coffee, Pillows too soft...
