My wife and I ate here on New Year's Eve and it turned out to be a delighful way to see out the old year and bring in the new. The dining room of this ancient castle on a hill overlooking the city of Bamberg is positively baronial. It was a single sitting set menu advertised as four courses but which turned out to be five. Accordingly, there was no rush and the evening could be savoured at a leisurly pace. The food was delicious with complementary wines chosen by the restaurant to accompany each course. The service was friendly yet solicitous without ever being intrusive. By the standards of eating out in Germany, the meal was not cheap but in comparison to English restaurant prices it was still excellent value for money. We finished our coffee in good time to go out on to the terrace and watch the city of Bamberg come alight with fireworks, a stunning end to a great evening.
