Although we had some difficulty finding the hotel, it was all worth it.
The Dom is right where the action is in Bamberg. The rooms are modern, comfortable and clean. The bathrooms are also clean and modern. Internet is free and easily accessible.
We were there in July 2013 and it was very hot in Germany. We returned to the hotel twice during the day and enjoyed the ice water available in the lobby and cool porch. In the afternoon, there was lovely plum cake and coffee for the guests.....free of charge.
The only downside was breakfast which was served in the hotel across the street. We saw people having breakfast there…….Bavarian breakfast of weisswurst and pretzels and other nice breakfasts, but our breakfast was a buffet and absolute minimal….with very unfriendly service. We told the hotel about this as did other guests who were checking out at the same time, so I suspect the situation will improve. If not, don´t book breakfast and have it at any of the many surrounding restaurants that offer very nice breakfasts at reasonable prices.
All in all, The Dom is a perfect place to enjoy your stay in Bamberg. There is a garage (10E a nite) and it´s directly in the middle of town. The personnel is very friendly and helpful.
When you visit Bamberg, you should know that the old town and most interesting tourist area is full of visitors....if your hotel is in this area, don´t be afraid to drive (very slowly, of course) through the narrow streets .....the people will get out of your way!! It´s a lovely city, the prices in restaurants and beer gardens are very reasonable and the gift shops have a wide variety of good German products that make nice gifts for friends and family,
WE took a culinary tour which was fun. We learned a lot about the history of the city and the local food specialties, especially beer! Our guide was a student the University in Bamberg and was very sympathetic. the second tour we took was the historical tour which was also interesting and well worth it.
