Bad Salzuflen attracts a typically older age of visitor, owing to its range of spa and health facilities. In the hotel despite my 50th birthday looming up next year, it was like being part of an episode of "Waiting for God" in the hotel, with the surreal sight of the lobby full of septuagenarians dancing to a organist singing "Are you lonesome tonight?" (in German of course). We did feel young.
The best part about the hotel is its location, right opposite the park.
The hotel was clearly well-built in, I would guess, 1975. The restaurant is the high spot but the rooms and corridors are in desperate need of refurbishment. Bathrooms are dark and poor by modern standards.
Breakfasts and car parking are both very pricey. Although the breakfast buffet is very extensive and the staff are pleasant and friendly, at 16 EUR a go (including our son who had a daily diet of two rolls, a chocolate muffin and a glass of orange juice for 16 EUR) it's a bit steep. Parking is 13 EUR per day. Add to that one day of Internet access at 15 EUR, our "extras" bill which was for breakfast, parking, internet, one coffee and a bag of pretzels from the mini bar was about the same as the cost of the rooms!
Bad Salzulfen is a lovely town, and we will definitely be back. Near to the hotel is Vitasol, a large, state-of-the-art public spa that you must visit. Floating in a salt bath relaxing whilst listening to underground music was a wonderful experience and we could have stayed much longer.
Regrettably, unless we hear of a refurbishment at the Maritim, on our next visit to BZ we will look for another hotel
