It's spargl season! We lucked into this charming restaurant after wandering a bit around town gazing at menus. Classic European or German food and atmosphere, but offering special menu items, such as various spargl dishes of which we had several. A salad, a soup, then served with the main course of veal filet. The lady in charge of the dining room did not speak English but seemed to just understand what we were looking for and was a perfect hostess. Everything was delicious and a great value for the reasonable cost. Check out the pictures of the main course, YUM!

On Bodanstrasse, Konstanz, next to the shopping mall, this hotel has a pleasant restaurant on the first floor. Service was good, with no rush between courses. The menu offers German cuisine and also has an extensive european wine list. Starters consisted of a huge prawn cocktail and cream of tomato soup, with a dash of gin (couldn't really taste the gin, but saw it go in). A beautifully cooked rump steak (only as the Germans can provide) and wiener schnitzel topped off our meal. Going against all dining and culinary rules, we had a bottle of Sancerre, 'cos we like it!

This restaurant is run by the third generation of a family originally from Serbia, and a very excellent job they make of it too. The food is traditional southern German with elegant and refined touches and presentation. The restaurant itself is elegant too, with fresh table linen and polished glasses. We dined here with Swiss friends, seduced across the boarder by more modest prices; the restaurant is within a few yards of Switzerland and the Swiss railway station. The staff are friendly and helpful too. There is a good selection of Southern German wines, backed up by an international selection. Come here for a relaxed, unhurried and excellent lunch.

Great place for a steak and glass of red, not to forget the seafood and amazing desserts. White table cloths, silverware but very inexpensive. Exceptional value

This was the second restaurant meal of our first extended trip to Germany. A second-floor restaurant connected to a small hotel, it was lorded over by a very authoritarian and sometimes ill-tempered lady. We displeased her by ordering a single appetizer portion to be shared; she rapped the table with her knuckle; when we insisted, she shrugged her shoulders.

But the food was very good. The appetizer was the Kalbskopf mit Vinaigrette (veal head terrine with a salad). Our main courses were a venison plate (a specialty of the week) and a wurst platter. We had an excellent and reasonably priced pinot noir from the Bodensee (Spitalkellerei 2011).
