We have stayed in many Hotels around the globe but this family-run business on Lake Konstanz is among the very, very best. We absolutely love everything about the place. The service is friendly and professional; the rooms are spacious with excellent beds and a lounge area, plenty of storage and first class bathroom facilities. Spa treatments are available, although we have yet to try them on our two visits. The Restaurant is also superb: breakfast offers a wide variety of healthy options of cold meats, salmon, herring, cereals, fruits, jams and amazing breads plus champagne to accompany your fruit juices and coffee in a bright dining area looking out to the lake. Dinner is extremely good; interesting choice of quality mats and fish and pastas and good wines. Their Rieslings are delicious and Black Print a fun red.

We have only ever been in the cold of winter so have failed to show the necessary bravado for a roof top dip in the pool; however, the view from up there is wonderful. We hope one day to return in summer! The highlight for us though is definitely the views of and from Lake Konstanz which is just a few paces from the Hotel. Those views are etched into our memory. The stillness and beauty stirs the senses and is mesmerising. A truly great place to stay if you are visiting beautiful Konstanz, southern Germany or even Zurich only 40 minutes drive away.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room closest to Lake

We spent the most wonderful Christmas at the Riva Konstanz. I don't think I have enough superlatives to describe this place! If I could give six stars, I would! The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and went out of their way to make this a very memorable stay for us. We ate dinner each night in the hotel restaurant. The first night was the main menu (fantastic food), the Christmas Eve and Christmas Night dinners were a fixed course dinner (but with flexibility to swap some courses) and they were even better! The food was all superb. They even went to the trouble of translating the menu into English, which was really helpful. My daughter didn't want the Christmas Night dinner set and the chef very kindly made her some Veal Schnitzel with no worries at all. It was my husband's birthday during our stay and housekeeping dropped off a lovely chocolate mousse cake as a surprise - yum! We didn't realise how busy Christmas lunch would be and so didn't book, but the restaurant staff accommodated us with a smile, again nothing was a problem at all even on one of their busiest days of the year.

We stayed in one of the suites with a balcony view over the lake. It was a very comfortable clean room with high quality fittings and decor. The beds were super comfy and so was the huge bath! Molton Brown products were provided in the bathrooms too.

The fitness room contained four Technogym machines - two bikes, one treadmill and a cross trainer. It was pretty warm but you could open the big window right up to cool the room down and it was fine.

The location has all been said before - 10 minutes walk to town and right on the lake. Car parking was free if you parked outside, and EUR15 for undercover.

I would go back to the Riva Konstanz in a heartbeat - it was absolutely one of the highlights of our stay in Germany and is one of the best hotels I have stayed in ever. I can highly recommend it.

We stayed here for 9 nights on holiday. The junior suite was superb. The location of the hotel was perfect for a holiday, away from the bustle of the town but within a pleasant walking distance. The staff were efficient but very friendly and pleasant.
We enjoyed the roof top pool and sun patio. The food was top class.

Room Tip: Our room was on the third floor and we were not aware of any hotel noise. With the window open we...

We stayed here for four nights at the end of a two-week holiday around Bavaria. This is a top class hotel that fully justifies its 5* rating. Location - excellent. Walking distance to the old town, a short cycle ride to the Meersburg Ferry or a longer ride to Mainau. The hotel fronts the lake and achieves both convenience and peace and tranquility. Decor - a very modern new building integrates pretty seamlessly with a totally modernised and refurbished old mansion. Very cleverly done. Decor is cool and modern without being uncomfortable. Service - excellent, attentive and efficient. Food - breakfast buffet was lovely and they seemed willing to accommodate late-comers etc with goodwill. We ate in the "normal" restaurant a couple of times - good food, nice service. However, the menu would get pretty boring after more than this. Luckily, there are lots of choices nearby. Facilities - the pool area on the new rooftop was lovely. Imaginative use of grasses and good quality sunloungers. The spa was ok - my daughter had a massage which she enjoyed. I had a pedicure which was expensive by international standards and "ok": but they lack, for example, a proper pedicure chair to sit in .... We used the hotel's cycles : not bad, but the chain completely fell off one a couple of miles from the hotel, which wasn't ideal. Not entirely their fault but a bit of a dampener on the day. Room - here, we are biased, because we splashed out on the two bedroom suite (villa 5). This is a VERY expensive room but it is glorious. Direct lakefront views and balcony (we didn't need to go up to the roof terrace), two lovely bedrooms, two bathrooms including one with huge bath and walk in shower, walk in dressing room, and large living area with sofas etc. Furnishings were lovely, very high quality. Toiletries all Molton Brown and plentiful. Robes (including a kid size one for my daughter) were super soft and fluffy ... Couldn't have asked for more. Summary : This is a cool, elegant hotel, quiet and tranquil. It works for kids, provided they are reasonably well behaved, but I do not (thankfully) consider this a "family hotel". Location is perfect and the staff will ensure your stay is superlative. It reminds me very much of the Fasano in Rio de Janeiro, if anyone knows that, but with cool Germanic calm. It is expensive, but you do get what you pay for.

Room Tip: If you are willing to spend €1000 a night, then Villa 5 takes some beating. Two lovely rooms, both w...

This is a great location to entertain business guests. We enjoyed the comforts of the hotel and the restaurant. We were in a great location to travel by foot; we walked the promonade into town and along the lake front. The location is right next to the bike path and walking path. The yacht club is also within 2 minutes walking.

One of the best hotels we stayed in Europe. Very contemporary but at the same time is very warm and cozy. Service is superb. Yes it is expensive. We paid around 550 euros a night in the end of September but if you can afford it - its definitely worth it. (We couldn't really especially as it was in the end of the trip - but still did it :))

The Riva is a modern (about 6 years old) 5* hotel located right on the shore of Lake Konstanz, about 20 min walking distance from down-town Konstanz. It is relatively small (some 46 rooms), so as early as day 2 of a stay much of the personal greeted us by name. The key design feature is that hardwood floors, room doors and much of the furniture in the rooms are made from teak, contrasting with white walls and slight grey carpets. Rooms are spacious and nicely appointed, apparently all having a balcony with a (indirect) view of the lake. WLAN connectivity (free) is good. There is a rooftop infinity pool (12 m long, 1.35 m deep) which is claimed to be at 28 oC all year round; while in the pool you have a view of the lake as well.
Service is very attentive at the reception desk and in the main restaurant. There also is a 2nd restaurant which has two Michelin stars, but we could not sample it as it is closed Tue and Wed. However, the regular restaurant already is pretty good with imaginative cooking. The breakfast buffet has a good spread. There also is a spa area, which we did not try out. Overall, house and staff have everything you expect from a luxury hotel, but in an understated manner.
We tried hard to look for something negative, and the only thing we came up with is a rather small bathroom (although the walk-in shower has a good size).
The feature that impressed us most is the serene tranquility of the hotel. While having meals on in the outdoor part of the restaurant, being on the pool-deck or sitting on the room balcony, we did not hear any noises of civilization (except sometimes a very faint ferry boat passing in the distance), and most of what you hear are birds of various types. Hardly ever did I feel like so relaxed in a hotel from day 1.
Not cheap, but worth it for a special occasion.
