A nice castle, but not so much to see in the inside. The gardens are wonderful, especially in summer or during the "Kürbisausstellung" in Autumn.

We went here on the fly. We were able to point at what we needed and speaking very little to no German, but, that was no problem. We had to hurry as the "tour" was ending at 5:00 p.m. The attendants behind the desk gave us literature in English so we could follow along-the best we could. I was hoping for a "self-guided tour" but it was instructed. We were able to pick up some German words (from our German tour guide), see some amazing history, view the gardens, touch real gold (not approved) and see the awesome pumpkin festival that was going on outside-from the inside.
After the tour, we took some great pictures of the palace and scenery.

We had not heard of this palace until we read a Tripadvisor review saying that it is better then Neuschwanstein. Having visited, we understand the comment although we still find Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau unique. But especially in the summer, we would choose Ludwigsburg. There are no crowds, the palace and gardens are beautiful and interesting, and there is a (required) tour in English, I think at 1:30. There may be additional tour times. The English guide was full of jokes and entertaining stories. This palace offers a fascinating look at the servants' working rooms hidden between the grand state rooms. The highlight is the perfectly preserved theater, one of the very few left in Europe. The tour lasted about 90 minutes. It moved at just the right pace. There are additional sights which we left for next time, like a costume museum and some additional royal apartments. We would love to return and spend more time.

Wonderful intricately made pumpkin 'sculptures'. Delicious foods - the fried pumpkin seeds are the BEST! All set at a gorgeous palace! How many places around the world will you see a pumpkin festival held at a palace?! Wonderful place to spend family time and leave thoroughly happy. Ludwigsburg is a beautiful town, so you'll definitely be back for more!

The gardens are interesting and there are lots to see during pumpkin festival. However, having visited Residenz Palace in Munich recently, in comparison the exhibits here are not as plentiful and the palace is so so. And the €16 admission for the museums and gardens are expensive. Skip the palace but definitely visit the gardens.
