Description: The Olive Tree in St Merryn opens for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday from 6.30pm). Our food is largely influenced by Mediterranean cuisine and, indeed, anywhere you might find olive trees growing. We focus on making the most of the wonderful fresh produce available in Cornwall, and we source our fish, meat, dairy and most of our fruit & vegetables from local producers. Reservations are recommended, and please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements. Please note that the restaurant opens in March through to December - please contact us for specific dates.

I visited this restaurant with my boyfriend on a July Saturday evening, without advanced booking, and we were treated to a very accomodating experience - we ordered all sorts of mixed up bits of different dishes on the menu - in lovely clean, simple, comfortable and modern surroundings. Beautifully tasty, well cooked food - dessert (lemon posset) totally delightful, light and fresh. Smiles all round. We ended the evening with a fab sunset at nearby Constantine Bay; a fab end to a fab day.

A very nice restaurant run extremely well by a lovely couple.
The food is excellent but the portions are rather small , which just took the edge off our otherwise perfect evening.

First time to this little restaurant which is situated next to the garage at St Merryn crossroads. We walked up from our holiday cottage, having pre-booked and were made to feel instantly welcome. This friendliness and discussion about food and wine, was kept up throughout the visit, feeling totally genuine, as if the two running front of house were enjoying serving people, as much as everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals.

We had some olives on the table to start with and to this we added the excellent bread selection with olive oil dip. We washed this down with a small lager, before ordering the food and wine. We both started with scallops on apple risotto and parma ham. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the apple risotto was a perfect partner on the plate. In my wife's terminology, it was a starter "to die for". We both struggle to think of a better one we've had.

I had Monkfish for main, again this was with risotto, it was another perfectly cooked piece of fish, with the risotto having just the right stickiness and consistency. My wife had lamb, with tapenade and felt that if there was any thing to be critical about, it was the lamb, not as tender as could be and with some gristle in it, but the rest of the dish was to the high standards of everything else.

The desserts were fantastic, I had a cheese platter with a very nice class of port and I forget exactly what my wife had, a sweet dessert, which she accompanied with a dessert wine that wasn't to sweet, with a lovely orange flavour in it.

We visit the area every year, so will look in next year and if the same folk are running it, we'll be back.

We recently visited this restaurant for the first time. The welcome we received was warm and friendly, the food was excellent and included some delicious home made breads. Loved the (gratis) olive appetiser and just wished we'd had room for a dessert....maybe next time! Prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food and service. Would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.

The Olive Tree has gone from strength to strength ever since the charming Kevin & Flo took it on a couple of years ago. They consistently provide warm hospitality and a relaxed atmosphere.
Their new chef (ex Stein) continues to develop the cuisine - Italian inspired with local fresh ingredients - to ever greater heights; however taking care not to over-inflate prices; unlike many in nearby Padstow.
This is my favourite restaurant in the Padstow / St Merryn area.
