Owner description: Experience amazing sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes as the past comes to life. Beamish is unique - our objects aren't locked away in glass cases, this is hands-on history! Step into the past and explore our 350 acre site, as Beamish tells the story of the people of North East England in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. Taste traditional food from a coal-fired range, hop on board a tram or steam train, play schoolyard games together and pop into the Co-op shops. Come back time and time again with your Beamish Unlimited Pass, which allows 12 months free entry to the museum from your visit - including all day time special events!

There really is so much to see and do at Beamish Museum that when you're half way through your first visit you really start to appreciate why their twelve month, return as often as you like, tickets are sold to every visitor.

I first visited Beamish the same year that 'The Town' was officially opened. 28 years has passed since then, but I have to say the 2013 experience was just as good, if not better, than I remember it as a child.

Must see/do:
• The town Dentist
• Entire pit village
• The farm
• A ride on the tram and bus
• Payment system in the Co-op
• Engage with the interpreters – they’re really good!

The massive disappointment is the catering – it is of poor quality and overall a ‘below par’ offering. We’d happily spend between £20 and £40 enjoying a great lunch; unfortunately you just cannot seem to find that in Beamish.

I am sure the food offer will improve in line with their future plans for the site. By no means let my comments put you off – let’s face it; you can always take a pack lunch!

OVERALL: Go to Beamish! It’s fun, educational and thoroughly entertaining.

“Straight out of the "Grim North"”

This absolutely wonderful collection of old industrial buildings, transport relics (many still operating) and themed actors give the place a real time warp experience.
It doesn't really matter if it is raining either - there are plenty of craft houses into which to pop and the shiny cobbled streete make better photographs.

Need a car to get there or a local excursion. Expect to take 5-6 hours to really see it fully.

“Just gets better and better”

Another fabulous full day out at Beamish. Everywhere so clean and true to the period. Staff and cast all helpful and friendly. Plenty to do and see at your leisure and it never feels busy. Looking forward to going back as new attractions are coming on line regularly. A step back in time and a real chance to experience what life would have been like. Family friendly.
