Owner description: Experience amazing sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes as the past comes to life. Beamish is unique - our objects aren't locked away in glass cases, this is hands-on history! Step into the past and explore our 350 acre site, as Beamish tells the story of the people of North East England in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. Taste traditional food from a coal-fired range, hop on board a tram or steam train, play schoolyard games together and pop into the Co-op shops. Come back time and time again with your Beamish Unlimited Pass, which allows 12 months free entry to the museum from your visit - including all day time special events!
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Bathroom facilities, Food available for purchase, Activities for young children, Activities for older children

Beamish is as always a fantastic place to visit. You feel like you have stepped back in time into a real life history lesson. Beamish gives you a real sense of the past and what it was like to live in those times. It was busy when we went, with school parties and the staff cannot do enough for both the school parties and regular visitors. We had a great time and with the Beamish unlimited ticket we will definitely visit again this year.

The quality of the exhibits is top class. Other reviewers have enthused, and rightly so. My big disappointment was the lack of care and imagination in some aspects of customer care. On a November Saturday we had to queue for 35 minutes to buy tickets. Only 3 of the 7 tills were manned, and more time was wasted in asking for names and addresses. More manned tills and a voluntary system for obtaining personal details are obvious solutions. There are a few pictures along the length of the queue, but nothing to entertain or interest young children. Lessons could be learned from Disneyland! We went as a family group and other members reported even worse experiences on previous visits.

40 years on and getting better. Excellent value for the pay once use for a year ticket, especially for families. As it's not easy to see all the attraction in one visit. Food outlets very good especially the coal fired, beef dripping cooked fish and chips.

A great family day out. Lots of things to see and do. Fine weather helps as the attractions are spread over a large site.

From the little town itself to a lesson by a Victorian teacher, this is a wonderful living museum. Try the sweet shop too. The way of life that is portrayed now all gone. Places like this are to be applauded.
