Owner description: Experience amazing sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes as the past comes to life. Beamish is unique - our objects aren't locked away in glass cases, this is hands-on history! Step into the past and explore our 350 acre site, as Beamish tells the story of the people of North East England in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. Taste traditional food from a coal-fired range, hop on board a tram or steam train, play schoolyard games together and pop into the Co-op shops. Come back time and time again with your Beamish Unlimited Pass, which allows 12 months free entry to the museum from your visit - including all day time special events!

“Great for school trips”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2012 via mobile

Yet another fantastic day out with school children for our topic work. There is so much to see and do, from lessons in the school room, going down the coal mine, life on the farm, what life was like in a pit village, the manor house and (my favourite) ye olde fashioned sweetie shoppe lol, to name but a few.

The children find it fascinating learning what life used to be be like 100 years ago and some can't quite believe there was no electrity which meant no tv and Xbox!

A huge thanks to all staff who told us 'their' stories and showed the children how things worked in the past.

A fab day had by all.

“Great place for a family outing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

Beamish Museum was even better than we expected. Spent a whole day and still had a third of the museum to see, so we went back a couple of days later for round 2. All of the people working there had a wealth of historical information and anecodotes about the area they were in that day, and were very enthusiastic. You can either walk about or use the trams to get between the different parts of the museum, there's also a short distance of train track, and a horse and cart at times. Apparently they are planning to enlarge the museum and provide some holiday accommodation in the future. It's well laid out for disabled access and buggies, and plenty of WC's dotted about. Fish and chips are great, as are the the sunday dinners. Would recommend highly to everyone - from babies upwards. Also one ticket lasts a year so you can go back several times for no extra cost - a real bargain !

“Unique experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

If you are visiting the north east take the time to come here, there is nothing like this place. If you are local buy a season ticket, it is the same price as one visit and it is worth coming at different times as they have seasonal activities. I took my grand-daughter many times and she was always thrilled with the place. a true living museum.

“BACK IN TIME”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

It takes you back to olden times. There are trams, a coal mine, pitmans cottages where people are cooking, a school, farm. a dentist and shops. Sweet shop where they make old fashioned sweets. Its a fabulous experience.
