Owner description: Experience amazing sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes as the past comes to life. Beamish is unique - our objects aren't locked away in glass cases, this is hands-on history! Step into the past and explore our 350 acre site, as Beamish tells the story of the people of North East England in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. Taste traditional food from a coal-fired range, hop on board a tram or steam train, play schoolyard games together and pop into the Co-op shops. Come back time and time again with your Beamish Unlimited Pass, which allows 12 months free entry to the museum from your visit - including all day time special events!

“What a great place.”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

Always wanted to visit Beamish and was not disappointed. What a great place for all ages. Handy to have the old buses or trams to go between each location as some are quite a distance apart. Went for a ride on the old steam engine (elephant) and the 3 men running it were great fun. Plenty of places to eat and prices were good. The old shops took us back to our childhoods (we are only in our 50's) so that was funny to see. Glad that dentists have changed a lot! Only downside was the queue to get in. We went on a Tuesday (not school holiday time) got there just after it opened and we were over 30 mins in the queue before we got in. Should get more tills open in the morning as most people were complaining. We were there till it was closing and you can have a very full day with something to do and see all day long. Some school's visiting had the children in period dress and that was great to see. Have a go down the pit as long as you don't mind enclosed spaces. Buildings seem to be being added all the time so I think its a place you can visit time and again and never get tired. Great day out for all the family

“Immerse yourself in history”
Reviewed June 16, 2012

I had been before many years ago and had wanted to go again to see what had changed. I was astonished at the number of interesting things to do. From the tram ride into history to a ride in the open trucks behind the "Steam Elephant" it was enthralling and yet there is still more to come in the next few years. The catering facilities are very good and reasonably priced. One word of warning - some of the attractions only operate with volunteers so it is necessary to go at a weekend or during the main holiday season to experience everything.....although it takes so long to see the number of exhibits available...you may need several days.
