This is a really well situated spot, perfect for kiters. Kitty and Kirk are great hosts and we had a nice week here taking some kiting lessons and enjoying the area. The resort is nicely done with a variety of nice casitas, a gorgeous view and you can also walk to some of the looks spots to get food or drink. There is a good taco place pretty much across the street that has delicious food.

My wife and I stayed at Captain Kirk’s for two weeks this March, 2014. Kirk and Kitty were awesome (owners of Captain Kirk’s). The casita we stayed in was very comfortable, including the bed! There was a shared kitchen which we used that was very user friendly. The breakfast that was provided was first-class and the cleaning services on the property and the casita were excellent (staff were great). Adam and John were our kite instructors; they ensured we thoroughly went over safety and also what level of kiting we were at. The kiteboarding instruction was as good or exceeded previous experience. We got IKO rating cards to tell exactly what level we are at. Btw, you are upwind of the kiting congestion, so we thought that was great. We did rent paddleboards and they had open kayaks for us to use – so full service. Overall, another great experience for us; highly recommended.

Everyone here was awesome ! We had a great 1 bedroom studio. Took kite lessons from Adam (thanks so much !).Would stay all winter since 1 month was NOT long enough. The kiting, paddling, snorkling, biking and hiking is all perfect. Everyone including the wonderful dogs are laid back and friendly.

Room Tip: All rooms are good and within a short walk to the beach.

We recently returned from our second trip to Captain Kirks. La Ventana is a great kiting destination and Captain Kirks has been a fantastic place to call home when visiting. Great launch area, relaxed setting with all the amenities we need including breakfast, equipment (SUP, kite gear, windsurfing gear, etc....), Wi Fi and fantastic accommodations which are very well maintained, clean and probably the nicest in the area!

The hosts are fantastic and we always feel very welcome and well looked after when visiting. Their great local knowledge of winds, locations, things to do, and assisting with organizing catering, massages, fishing, etc.. only help make our trips that much more enjoyable and memorable.

We will continue to come back to Captain Kirks and highly recommend staying at Captain Kirks if you are visiting La Ventana!

Due to no fault of theirs, my visit to Captain Kirks was a bit of a bust - but I'll definitely be back because of how nice the place was and how great the owners are.

Here's the story in brief. It's always been a dream of mine to windsurf in Baja. I haven't really windsurfed before, but I was super excited to try it out in the clear, warm, calm waters of the Sea of Cortez. But we flew into La Paz the same day Hurricane Paul did - there was a lot of rain and flooding and all the boat trips were cancelled. After two days in a hotel and too much tequila, it was finally time to head to Captain Kirks for their first weekend of the season. Unfortunately, when we got there it was pretty messed up - the driveway had partially washed out and the beach was pretty rough. Worse, Captain and Mrs. Captain and all the gear were stranded hundreds of kilometers away due to washed out roads. They had arranged for an alternate instructor to come get us, but as the timing and gear were uncertain this gave our 4 beginners a bit of the jitters. And there were no stand up boards or bikes available because of the storm. So we made the best of it, had a lovely one night stay in the very lovely and modern casitas, enjoyed the porches and stars, and headed out the next morning. Kirk didn't hesitate to offer a very generous refund asking only in return that we consider coming back again. And with such decent treatment and such a beautiful spot, we'll certainly do so!

Room Tip: Plan a few days here - 1-2 is probably going to feel a bit short.

We just got back from Captain Kirk's at La Ventana and had a wonderful time. Kirk and Kitty were the perfect hosts. We relaxed each morning with a yummy breakfast (included) overlooking La Ventana Bay, then off to the beach for some SUPing and then windsurfing. The villages around were fun to explore and sample new food. Best margaritas, guacamole and grilled ship at Las Palmas (3 miles). Fabulous wood-fired oven pizza at Playa Central and a ton of fun at Open Mic night (locals play Jack Johnson, reggae and home grown music). If you are a kite boarder, you will love this place. The accommodations were nice - comfy bed, clean bathroom, small equipped kitchen. Everyone we met was friendly. We'd definitely go back. WiFi was decent, so we could send photos of our trip back home.

This is THE spot for the older kitesurfer and windsurfer as it is away from the noise etc of the younger crowd and the congestion on the water. The kiting and windsurfing is right in front of the resort and the sailing traffic is minimal. Kitty and Kirt are exceptional hosts and fun to be with.
I had a chance to look about La Ventana and I can state unequivocally that were I to return to La Ventana I would stay at Captain Kirts.
I might add that this is great place for those with families who wish to participate in the offered watersports.
