Quality Inn Halifax Airport
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Goffs
Reviewed June 3, 2008

I have stayed at the Halifax Airport Hotel (now the Quality Inn Halifax Airport) a number of times in the last few years but was most impressed with the room and the service I received this May. New carpets and furniture, fresh paint and a very comfortable bed made the price of $119.00 with 2 weeks free parking a real bargain, compared to the neighbouring airport hotel the Hilton Garden Inn which charges $169.00 for a 2 week park and stay. I have also stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn which is a newer building and more upscale - but to me not worth the extra $50.

I found the shuttle service efficient and reliable. 2 vans were available and I was taken to the airport as soon as I requested the shuttle. The restaurant is nothing special but food is reasonably priced and the service is good.

The hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating. Fresh apples are available at the front desk and there is free internet in the business centre.

The new Quality Inn management has made huge improvements to this property. I intend to stay at this hotel whenever I fly out of Halifax.

We chose this hotel for their promotion of staying one night and park for free and they shuttle you to the airport. Well, let me say - Don't do it.....park your car yourself at the airport and save the hassle. We were told upon Check in to be in the lobby fifiteen minutes before we needed to be at the airport the followng morning. We actually arrived "a half hour " before we were to be at the airport. and was informed by the front desk agent "it'll be 15 minutes". When seeing a lobby full of people, I had asked about getting a cab? I was told it would have to come from the city and would take 20 to 30 minutes and was reassured yet again, that their van would get us to the airport on time. A half hour before our flight was to depart Halifax... (50 minutes later) we were still at the Quality Inn!! Fortunately for us, some other people in the same predicement went to retrieve their vehicle. I had to beg and plead to these strangers to please give us a drive or we would miss our flight. We sat on luggage and on top of one another, but am still forever grateful for the kindness of these strangers. We ran, and ran, and ran... and just made our flight. Believe me, this is no way to start off your dream vacation that you've saved and planned for for years. So folks .......a word of advise, stay someplace else and drive yourself to the Airport.

Check-in was quick and staff polite and helpful. The bar staff were friendly and the food in the restaurant was good, unlike previous reports we didn't have to wait too long for it, however it was not a busy evening.
There is a lift but some rooms are quite a walk from this with some extra stairs.
The room was fairly small with an ensuite bath/shower and toilet. There was a vanity unit with sink, hairdryer and also an iron and board and TV in the room. Enough coathangers in the open space for a short stay. The bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows. The room and bathroom were both clean.
There's a shuttle to take you to the airport - we went there to get transport into Halifax - taxi is a set fare of $CA53.00 and the journey time was about 20 minutes. There is nothing around the hotel in the way of bars or restaurants but it is ok for a short stay if you need to be close to the airport.

we booked a room on main floor as we had a lot of luggage and unable to do stairs or a lot of walking due to surgery .when we rrived we were told all rooms on main floor were gone ,but we booked 2 weeks in advance but that didn't matter. room was dull and not enough light for reading, not very clean either. Restaurant was very poor ,service slow and food not eatable -but no one seemed to care.We then had to drive back to the airport to eat.
What ever did they do away with the nicelongue they once had and the food was good then too??? Too bad its gone and the prices make u think food should be good but it sure does not reflect the cost.Don't eat there unless u are real desperate.

Staff were indifferent - room was quite terrible for the cost - $149 plus taxes bought a dreadful pokey room with a cupboard for a bathroom, dirty, paint on the carpet, rust on door hinges, dated tv, etc. The restaurant attached wasn't bad although it took over an hour to get food. All in all - only stay there if you absolutely have to. Even though they are getting renovations - it doesn't excuse the hundreds of cigarette butts outside the back door and really bad parking situation.

The free 24 hour shuttle is convenient, but the hotel is undergoing major and much-needed rennovations. Our room had peeling paint, mold, extremely out-dated bathroom and building supplies are stacked in halls and other areas. The location near the airport and shuttle did meet our needs. The shuttle operator, I think the MOD on this day, was very friendly and accommodating at 3:45 am and coffee was available.

THERE'S A CAR RACETRACK NEXT DOOR!

We paid >$150 and listened to screaming engines till 11.15pm! I was tired and had hoped to get an early night, since I had to get up at 5.30 in the morning. At 10.30pm, I went to Reception and asked how long this racket was going to go on. Manager's response was "should should stop soon but don't really know". They had absolutely no sympathy and basically didn't appear to think this was a problem, and refused any consideration. DUH!

I subsequently checked the racetrack schedule:

[--]

They race every Friday night in summer , plus some Sat's. If you have to stay there on a race night insist on a room as far from the racetrack as possible.

The Hotel needs to either make legal moves to stop evening racing, or else relocate.

And if any Halifax civic luminaries are reading; The hotel predates the racetrack - who in the Halifax planning department decided that Racetracks and Hotels make good bedfellows?
