“Why are We Waiting?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

Popped into the Westhill hotel for a lunch on Friday.Glad we weren't in a hurry! The head waiter/ manager who greeted us was lovely and showed us to a table. Our drink order was taken and we saw it heading our way within a decent amount of time, but oh dear! The disinterested waitress appeared to be mute as it was plopped on the table she never uttered one word.
We checked out the menu to see what we wanted to eat and then waited for a visit from one of about 4 staff who passed by our table but time passed and no attention was to be had. The mute waitress shuffled past apparently too tired to lift her feet properly to walk! We began to think we might be invisible and debated just leaving to go to the excellent Chinese across the road where the staff are well trained and nice people who smile and talk to their customers.
Then a lovely girl turned up and asked if we had ordered- No, but this is what we would like please!!
The food duly arrived and it was very good indeed.
Nice surroundings and the staff we did speakwere great, just bad organisation. Serve customers before clearing tables , at lunchtime folk may be in a hurry.Oh and get rid of the one who can't be bothered to talk to you!
Don't think we'll bother again.

Dear Marion E
I was very sorry to read of your disappointment witrh some aspects of your service whilst in the lounge recently. Please be assured that this is not at all refelctive of our normal level of service, and after your feedback through Tripadvisor, I immediately instructed that your comments be reviewed with the members of staff concerned. This has occurred.
I thank you for the positive comments that you have made and hope that this isolated issue will not deter you from visiting us again.

I have stayed in this hotel several times in the last few years. I am a frequent visitor to Aberdeen on business and have stayed here for long duration sometimes as high as five weeks. The rooms are all clean and neat and the staff is very friendly. Due to my long stay the hotel was flexible in terms of bringing in food from takeaways. The maintenance service is quite good and when I have had minor problems, they were taken care quickly.

The only two things that bother me are lack of paid sport channel like sky sports in the room. I had even offered to pay but there some technical problems as a result of which I never got these channels. To watch football I will need to go to a pub which is problematic as I do not drink. The other problem come when the hotel host's wedding over the week end. and some time things get out of hand with kids running around at 3 AM and knocking doors.

Dear Seshadri S
Thank you for your loyal custom and your good comments through Tripadvisor.
I am sorry for the Sports TV issue that you mention and assure you that if we were able to screen this channel in our bedrooms I would have no hesitation in doing so.
Also, I do apologise when our other guests (wedding guests?) have disturbed you. Unfortunately some people do have poor manners when staying in hotels and I apologise for their disturbances whilst making their way to their rooms. As soon as we hear of a noise issue we immediately send staff to deal with any disturbances. This however is too late for guests like yourself who may already have been disturbed.
Thank you again for your loyalty, and when you are next in the hotel, please ask for me and I would welcome a chance to offer my personal apologies to you.
Kind regards

I first stayed here 1985 ,, when nothing else in Westhill , now its the Oilfield Deepwater center of Excellence as locally portrayed, Options are here or Premier Inn or drive in from town. A few newish local restaurants.

In 2011 -12 I probably have 10 plus stays for 1-2 weeks at a time. Majority contributor to my Platinum status on Priority card.(good program btw)

Holiday Inn took it over and completely refurbushed.
Classed as a 4 star hotel (AA Plaque).

Its the best hotel in the West of Aberdeen Area, Usually fully booked on weekdays (Oil and Gas business) and Weekends ( Weddings and Events), book early.

Rooms are generally good but much traffic , showing age (slightly),, refurb plans need to be in motion.
TV is small flat screen and PPV system antiquated vs USA / global. Now up to scratch.
Internet is 30 Pounds for a week ! sorry this is becomming a commodity freebe, get with the times !
Spent the previous week in the Indigo Hotel in Newcastle, faster and free, and same hotel group.

Staff seems to have a fairly high turnover in some areas, not all bad. Average overall.
Always impressed by their 'maid' service, usually male and lets say European, fast, exact, good.
Reception staff fair to good.
Wait staff change a lot, students ? Do fine.
Good lounge, meals are on the heavy side, Menu static, health concious will run out of options very quickly.
Italian restaurant an alternative , OK but Menu hasnt changed much either. Cellar mediocre.
Specials used to be good, had the best Sea bass of my life in 2011 (my target meal) , but last week was poor, Special (pork) being repeated x 2 nights (hint?), keep special special.

Its the best hotel in Westhill, the Breakfast is a highlight, has a very wide choice and the best Full Fried / Grilled Scottish/English bufffet I have come across in such a hotel class.. Porridge (aka oatmeal) was bad this time (but you can put a nip of Whiskey (Scotch) into it ! Provided ! and the Great Scottish Baps (Bread buns) were not to the usual stellar standard, other than that you have 100 combinations and its great (except for the 80's loud disco musak piped thru in the background), play something soft and quiet, classical.

The 'Bar' at the back is frequented (mainly) by locals and can be rowdy, but is friendly and the beer is cheaper and you can see Sports not available in your room and you can meet the locals !

Sunday they have an all day Carvery (ie Roast Beef, turkey etc ) traditional Brit Sunday Lunch
Suggest to readers that you get there early and suggest to the Holiday Inn they make some real gravy from the roasts vs packaged , for the perfect touch,

A busy and well run Hotel and the best in West Aberdeen.

Room Tip: All rooms much the same, if a Priority rewards member make sure they know this.

Dear Sackripper
Thank you for your very detailed and informative feedback on the hotel, it's history, the area and the current strengths and weaknesses as you see them.
I am certain that many others will read your review and gain a lot from it.
I assure you that the areas where you feel we could improve will be reviewed carefully and I hope that you will ask for me on a future stay, so that I can discuss our future plans for the hotel with you - these do include a new TV system and wi-fi access and charges.
Thank you for your great feedback and your loyal custome for many years.

we attended a wedding here and checked in on the wednesday 19th of sept with the wedding on the friday and from the moment we arrived through the wedding and until we left on the 23rd the staff could not been more helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them, we had a slight problem with the room cards were we had to change them constantly but that was not much of a bother. The wedding day was fantastic itself and with there being a lot of kids there of which were "quite noisey" the staff never batted an eye lid, The wedding venue was beautiful with all the tables decked out accordingly and the food was very good. Special mention to the girl who was in charge of the proceedings ( sorry I cant remember her name) who was very articulate and nothing was too much bother providing the Bride and Groom with the confidence that everything was being dealt with. All in all a very enjoyable experience and being there for 4 days we would gladly go back and stay whenever we go to Aberdeen again. First Class

We had our wedding at the hotel on 8th September 2012. We saw the function room set up and just thought it was definitely the one. The lights are just beautiful! We had our ceremony and reception at the hotel and the room is just perfect for it all.

Everyone we dealt with was just lovely and special thanks go to Elaine for her patience with all our questions etc. and also for all the help she gave us with everything. Special thanks also to Hazel who was our master of ceremonies for the day and ensured it all went without a hitch and could not do enough for us.

The meal was perfect also and the chef also offered alternatives on the day to those who did not want the main which was lamb. Very very kind and definitely above and beyond. The mini fish and chips went down a storm at night and we've had loads of comments about it!

We honestly had a perfect day and the hotel did a fantastic job of catering for us and our guests!! We cannot recommend them enough!

Thanks everyone :)

Dear Joanne H
Thank you for a great review and of course for holding your special day with us here in Westhill.
Thank you for your kind comments of Hazel and Elaine and our service overall. Weddings - as you know - are a collaberative and complex event, and it is especially pleasing to add your great comments via Tripadvisor, to those that have gone before.
Many thanks

We had booked 2 tables at the Take That Tribute Night for a Hen Party and we were not disappointed, the set up, the meal, the Tribute Band and the DJ was excellent, a great night was had by all and we were certainly a mixed group (ages from 25-60)

Would definitely recommend and will be back for one next year - Thank you to Ebony and Elaine for all your help!
