We feel blessed to have discovered this amazing paradise about 15 km outside Pietermaritzburg.
Richard and Dave have transformed this little farm over the last 5 years from a rundown piece of land when they bought it - overgrown with invader plants, and no infrastructure - to a model agro-ecological farm with a diversity of heirloom animals and crops.
Everything is grown organically and they farm on a small scale with Nguni cattle, rare Zulu sheep, Kolbroek pigs, etc and even have their own bee hives. They make their own bread, and cheeses and jams, they cure their own meat - to name but a few of their amazing culinary skills.
They have three orchid houses on the farm and you can buy from them.
These two guys are unbelievably inspirational. They are so passionate about what they do, and I love how they manage to farm with compassion.
They have a built the cutest guest house themselves! The rooms are very comfortable and beautifully decorated. There is a living room/kitchen complete with fire place , AND a magical dome with little glass sections in to let light through!!
I try to stay there whenever I am in the area. It is good for my soul to be in an environment like this. There is a little pond in front of the guest house, and I love the sound of the singing frogs. It puts me to sleep in a minute.
The hosts are fantastic cooks, so be sure to order dinner. They cook almost exclusively with what they produce on the farm. It is wonderful to know that no chemicals are used on their veggies, and nothing is genetically modified, and the meat is all truly free range and 100% organic (the pigs and chickens, and turkey, are running around in the garden!
They have won numerous awards, locally and internationally.
It is amazing to see the harmony between nature and humans on this inspirational farm.
Dave and Richard are fantastic hosts who goes out of their way to make you feel at home and to share their passion for the land with you.
They are very inspirational, and I always leave so energized and with a new positive outlook on life when I have spent a few relaxing days here.
If you are looking for a place for an unusual holiday, look no further...
